Milos Forman, a prominent Oscar-winning film director, died on Friday, April 13, at the ripe age of 86. Born in former Czechoslovakia in 1932, Forman was one of the most renowned and popular Czech film directors of all time. He lived and worked in his homeland until 1968 when he moved to the U.S. Just seven years later, in 1975, he rose to the world fame with his Hollywood blockbuster “One Flew over the Cuckoo´s Nest”, a comedy-drama starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher.

Considered one of the greatest movies to have ever been made, “One Flew over the Cuckoo´s Nest” became only the second film in history to win all of the top five Academy Awards categories (the first one was the 1934 comedy It Happened One Night). In 1984, Forman won his second Oscar for his period drama Amadeus, followed by numerous prestigious awards such as the Golden Globe, Berlinale, European Film Academy, Cannes and many more.

Acclaimed by film critics and loved by film fans, Milos Forman was one of the greatest figures of the film industry and it is a huge honor for us Czechs that he came from our country.

Rest in peace Mr. Forman, and thank you for your outstanding contribution to the film world. You will never be forgotten.
