As they say “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone” and well I am really missing the clean air I am usually blessed with here in British Columbia Canada. This year’s wildfires are particularly bad dramatically effecting our air quality, looking at the weather report all it says is haze with a chance of light rain.

B.C. declares state of emergency as nearly 560 wildfires burn across province

Browsing the official weather site there is now a state of emergency on Vancouver Island where I live. Many countries are pitching in sending supplies and workers to help fight the ongoing torment of fires. We have set records for total amount of fires on the island(33) and also number of fires started in a single day(27) luckily very few have been human related. It seems people are learning but Mother Nature has decided to toss a little karma at us for previous years by throwing a lightning storm at the island during our drought. All of this extends across the entire province with the worst year in 60 years, officials wonder if it will beat the worst year on record in terms of land burnt.

It is absolutely miserable outside, haven’t seen the sky in days. Never before have I seen this much smoke to the point I can stare directly at the sun without sunglasses. Everything seems to have a odd orange hue and even though the smoke is blocking out the sun we are still experiencing a heat wave.

My dog isn’t interested in going outside or doing anything, I can only imagine his eyes and lungs burn just like mine. Never mind that super sniffer of his the smoke must mess with his ability to enjoy sniffing and scent tracking thus we have a super lazy dog!

So back inside we go to hide from the smoke, it’s times like these I am glad to have purchased an AC unit for our place. I couldn’t imagine not being able to get away from the heat and smoke without flooding my house with a haze, it would be super unpleasant!

Hazy weather here in Malaysia too 😷

Ahh yea is it from fires or is it smog? I have read smog is a real issue in some of the larger cities. IMO that is by far worse of a case as this is very situational rather then with the case of smog getting worse every year as population grows. Tokyo has come to a solution of triggering rain fall before national events to have clear sky’s but the question remains about damage those pollutants are doing.

Yes it is due to forest fires as well caused by extreme dry weather conditions

Dang well better then smog I suppose, hopefully your in a safe zone and don’t have to do the run for your life. Did that once a few years back on vacation we were stuck in lower BC literally driving like madmen to get out of the flames, cooked my fuel pump it was so hot but we survived! I blew past a cop patrolling for people trying to stay in the area, I was doing 140kmh in a 50 zone and he didn’t even blink 😅 thank god 🤙

We’ve got a lot of smoke from the Canadian fires down here in Bellingham too. So crazy the amount of fires that have happened the last few years. 😞

It is crazy that so many are natural, call it a perfect storm. Hottest recorded year combined with a massive drought we’ll sure why not throw in a lightening storm and boom 💥 nearly every slash area is on fire or at major risk of it. One thing no one is mentioning is that all the areas that start burning have been logged recently then the fires spread to areas of forest. MSM doesn’t mention the slashes that burn as they are private property and the forestry companies figure it an easy clean up of the mess left behind from logging. It does have benefits by putting nutrition back into the ground but the risk on a year like this is just plain stupidity.

@d00k13 we are deterioting nature, thats why all this is happening. Poor air quality affects our health. When pollution is bad, it can irritate our eyes, nose, and throat, cause shortness of breath. It is time that we should and also our government should take important steps towards this, else we will not able to survive in this world.pollution is the major hazardous problem in almost all the nation. It is good that you are making people aware of this.keep sharing.

Yea humans definitely do more damage then good even when we attempt to correct previous mistakes. It will take a large effort on future generations to right mistakes of many generations to come and I fear it will only come with force from our governments. If people do not have a reason to change their habits they never will, a addict doesn’t quite till he is wanting to. Whatever is necessary IMO needs to happen at whatever expense to save our planet!

Only for the past few years, I don’t remember this being a thing from when I was a kid but you know climate change and all, some places are getting snow for the first time in recorded history. Sorry your trip ran through this season but here is hoping it’s a story you can tell about that one record beating season you traveled to the west coast for the first time and it goes another 60 years undefeated!

It is a good thing you can escape with your AC. That must be very unpleasant to have that much smoke in the air. Your pictures and story bring this news to life with a personal touch. Nice Job.

Yea the AC unit was one of those “do we really need it” things, this year that question has not been asked at all! The smoke is tolerable here on the West Coast but I couldn’t imagine living any closer to the fires inland if the smoke is that bad here with the coastal winds diluting it.

Thanks for stopping in, I never really know where these word of the day posts will take me. I usually start with the first word I think of and go from there snapping pictures as the idea evolves. This one came from the pictures of the sun I took, while editing I realized how bad the air quality is and boom there is my word of the day! Glad you enjoyed the @D00k13 spin 😉
