New Books Tuesday: July 17

in #news6 years ago

Many people know that Wednesday is New Comics day. Somewhat less known is the fact that Tuesday, in the US, is New Books day.

Weekly disclaimer: This weekly post highlights some of the books being published on any given week, usually in the science fiction and fantasy genres, both YA and books for adults. I am VERY likely to miss cool new books, so please feel free to tell me about them in the comments. Sometimes these will be books I've read a pre-publishing copy of, but most of the time, they will not. These are books I find notable, but I certainly don't read fast enough in English to be able to read all the cool books that come out every week.

It's another pretty big week of book releases. Not as huge as last week, but still quite significant. As an Israeli, I find this fascinating. July is probably the single slowest book release month in the year over here. But I guess it's different over in the US.

The Girl in the Green Silk Gown (Ghost Roads #2) by Seanan McGuire

One of the reasons I love being a Seanan McGuire fan is that there's always a new book around the corner. No one outworks Seanan. This is the second novel in the Ghost Roads series, telling the adventures of hitchhiking ghost Rose Marshall. It's not my favorite of McGuire's series, but of course I'll read it.

Maze Master by Kathleen O’Neal Gear

Gear is the co-author of the best selling "First North Americans" series, which I'll admit I never heard of. This is an apocalyptic thriller about a retro-virus.

Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie

The story of two young women who become mecha suited soldiers on a generation ship. This one sounds super fun.

The Hidden World (Imperials #3) by Melinda Snodgrass

First, a quick disclaimer: for some reason, this book isn't on Goodreads, so I'm using my amazon affiliate link.
This is the third book in the successful space opera series that started with "The High Ground."

The Wild Dead (Bannerless #2) by Carrie Vaughn

This is the second novel in Vaughn's well reviewed Bannerless Saga of a dystopian post apocalyptic America.

Condomnauts by Yoss

Cuban sff author Yoss' novel is a space opera about human sexual ambassadors to the stars. Because that's how first contact is made in his future.

Son of the Night by Mark Alder

The second novel in the Banners of Blood series, which combines the 100 Year War with a war between heaven and hell. As one does.

Competence (Custard Protocol #3) by Gail Carriger

The third in Carriger's much loved series of adventures, manners, and monsters.

When Life Gives You Demons by Jennifer Honeybourn

The adventures of a teen exorcist, having to keep her extracurricular demon fighting activities a secret from her friends, and her crush. Sounds super fun, and I really like the cover.

Constance Verity Saves the World (Constance Verity #2) by A. Lee Martinez

I never got around to reading "The Last Adventure of Constance Verity," which sounded super fun. that book 2 in the trilogy of a Chosen One who really doesn't want to be chosen anymore is here, I may catch up.

What are you looking forward to reading?
