RVshare: Helping RV Owners Become Their Own Service Providers

in #news7 years ago (edited)

The US RV industry has seen a growth over the past year of roughly 15 percent and it's continuing to expand. Millions of Americans own their own RV and for many that own it, they often aren't going to be using it a majority of the time.

This leaves their asset just sitting in the driveway or on the street, collecting dust for many months. However, now those RV owners have the option to utilize platforms that enable them to rent out those RV units to interested customers. The global sharing economy has made its way to RVs.

It's the Airbnb for RVs approach, and there are multiple businesses already active in this space. You've got various options like Outdoorsy, Wheel Estate, RVezy, and now RVshare.

It's estimated that most RVs are only used for 2 weeks out of the year. That means that they are only being used for roughly 1 percent of the year and 99 percent of the time they just sit there.

These new platforms allow those who own the RV to be able to make money from it rather than just allowing it to sit idle for perhaps many months at a time. The peer-to-peer business model has now helped to foster a variety of companies, and helped owners to be able to become their own service providers in renting out everything from their homes and apartments, to their boats, RVs, campers, and more.

And it also helps those who are looking to rent an RV, to perhaps be able to find a much more affordable option for their vacation.

The new company, RVshare, is from Ohio and it describes its services as being the Airbnb for RV owners and renters. They offer their services nationwide. And right now you can find an RV to rent through their platform, for roughly $150 per night , with discounts commonly offered when booking for extended periods of time (week or more). Right now they've also got thousands of different RVs to choose from.

One RV owner claims to have already made roughly $10,000 in one year by renting out his RV for only 90 days.

It's proving to be an exciting opportunity for families to try and secure some much needed extra income for themselves. And customers are able to arrange RV services in order to meet their own needs. Some have had them delivered directly to their campsite by the RV owner, others get them delivered to the airport so that when they land they can start their vacation right away, and so on. The details of the arrangement and the price is expected to fluctuate among the various RV owners, just as you would expect to find when browsing through Airbnb for a rental.

What an incredible idea! I would totally do an RV rental as a vacation! I also heard about a similar thing for cars - like for people who are parking their car at an airport and they'll be away for several weeks, they could put their car on a site where someone arriving in that city where the car is could use the car. Sharing is caring!

Very brilliant idea, now families can plan their vacation with more flexibility.
Interesting post , upvoted.

Its a brilliant idea, I would rather hire one for a week or so rather than buy one and have to maintain it all year just for 2 weeks :)

I'm sure it's gonna be cheaper than traditional RV rentals! I love RV's but don't think I could ever justify buying one.

Wow! The whole concept is beyond mutually beneficial for both parties involved. I'm more than curious about all the the terms and conditions when it comes to renting the ol rv out, thank you so much for sharing this @doitvoluntarily!!! Research time, lol!

I feel good after read your post....
