Assassinating the Media

A few years back, I discovered a podcast called 'No Agenda'. On the surface, the premise of deconstructing the mainstream media didn't seem that groundbreaking or revolutionary. Entities like 'The Daily Show' and other late night comedy shows have been doing this for years. However, once you begin to pull back the veil, you begin to see how news organizations are bought and paid for by their parent companies, as well as their sponsors.

No Agenda answers to no one except its audience, who are credited with producing the show through a 'value for value' model of donations. The show is produced by Adam Curry and John C Dvorak, and is a twice weekly deconstruction of the weeks' news, with a focus on showing how absurd, skewed, and outright fictitious a lot of our mainstream news coverage is. They do a brilliant job of connecting many of the dots our mainstream media refuses to do, and are pretty god damn funny in the process.

The community that has thrived around this open source format is an inspiration, especially when comparing it to the concept of Steem. No Agenda allows it's producers to produce the art for the show, submit jingles, create apps based on the podcast, and generally produce content inspired by the show's episodes.

Shows such as The Daily Show, Bill Maher, or John Oliver, begin to seem like watered down copies of what 'edgy' is actually supposed to be like by comparison. They still have a target market to cater to, advertisers/subscribers to please, and the network breathing down its neck.

Of course, no individual is immune from personal biases, and I wouldn't claim that this show is the gospel or 100% true. Frankly, that's impossible and unrealistic to ask from anyone. However, it is definitely worth your time! If you want to be informed and entertained at the same time, I highly suggest this podcast to all Steem readers!
