Mark Zuckerberg vows to "fix" Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg, chairman of Facebook, vowed to "fix" the famous social networking site in what he called his personal challenge of 2018.
Zuckerberg said in a publication on his Facebook page that "Facebook was a lot of mistakes to implement policies and prevent the abuse of the use of tools."
Zuckerberg has set himself a personal challenge every year since Facebook began in 2009.
Social media companies have been criticized for allowing the publication of what was described as false news ahead of the US presidential election.
Facebook has been criticized in particular for allowing publication of propaganda related to Russia ahead of the US presidential election in 2016.
Zuckerberg said he wanted to focus on the "important issues" he described as "protecting Facebook users from abuse and hatred, protecting against interference by states and making sure that the time spent on Facebook is being used."
"We will not prevent all mistakes and abuses, but now we are making a lot of mistakes to implement our policies and prevent the abuse of our tools," Zuckerberg wrote.
"If we achieve success this year, we will end 2018 on a much better track."

Zuckerberg said he would know much more deeply about these issues than doing anything else. Previous decisions of Zuckerberg included wearing a tie every day when going to work.
But Zuckerberg's critics have questioned the viability of his pledge this year.
"Zuckerberg's personal challenge this year is to do his job as president of Facebook," said technology expert Maya Kosov.
One of the issues he intends to deal with is centralism and decentralization, Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg believes that technology promises to put more power in the hands of people, but now many people have lost confidence in technology and see it as more centralized.
Zuckerberg said encryption and the use of digital currency can address the problem of centralization, and that they are looking at their use on Facebook.
