The 13th anniversary of the death of John Paul II
On the second day of Easter, Monday is the 13th anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II.
The news about the death of the Pope was announced by Archbishop Leonardo Sandri saying: "Dear brothers and sisters, at 21.37 our beloved Holy Father John Paul II returned to the Father's house."
He died after almost 27 years of his pontificate on the eve of the Feast of Divine Mercy, which he himself established in 2000, canonizing his advocate, sister Faustina Kowalska.
John Paul II was buried in the Vatican Grottoes.
His beatification was made by Pope Benedict XVI on May 1, 2011. After her, the tomb of the Pope was transferred to the St. Sebastian Chapel in the Basilica of St. Peter, not far from Michelangelo's Pieta. Regular masses are celebrated there.
Pope Francis announced Pope Francis on April 27, 2014. The beatification and canonization process was record-breaking. On October 16 this year, the 40th anniversary of the election of the Polish Pope will be celebrated. Saint John Paul II pray for us.
