BREAKING - Transport Chief Chao to unveil revised Self-Driving Car Guidelines
Will they be the most progressive moves by the Trump administration so far?
Despite Tesla's accidents, and Trump's falling out with Elon Musk, it appears the Transport Department is set to finally help big tech companies bring autonomous cars to the masses.
Chao unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show that they want to get rid of
“unnecessary obstacles to the development and integration of new tech... [the guidelines] will be tech neutral and flexible — not top-down.”
Guidelines will address “barriers to the safe integration of autonomous technology for motor carriers, transit, trucks, infrastructure and other modes,” Reuters reported on Sunday.
It still remains to ask who will win - a new player like Tesla, Uber, or SoftBank? Or an oldie like GM, VW, or Toyota?
