Bolsonaro, Brazilian Right Wing Presidential Candidate - Stabbed to Near Death
This past September the 6th, Jair Bolsonaro, a brazilian congressman also running for the presidency, was stabbed in the abdomen, during one of his campaigns.
He was being carried on the shoulders of his supporters, when, on video, you can see someone swiftly stabbing him, while Bolsonaro was looking over one of his sides, and presenting a thumbs up for someone else.
He was rushed into the hospital, and he's since stabilized, even if there is still considerable risk of infection or other problems. He had a 12cm stab wound which perfurated his short and long intestines, and had already lost 50% of his blood when he was taken into care.
Why did this happen?
First, I think it is important to talk about his political filiation. He's a right-wing politian, very much against the violent left, a free market advocate and a christian. Why does this matter? Because, all around the world, violent protests have invariably been associated with the left, perhaps the most well known being the Antifa and Black Lives Matter communists/socialists, over in the United States.
Violence coming from right wingers? I don't know. I haven't heard much or anything at all in that regard.
To anyone not very much in the known about politics - and I don't blame you, it's a bunch of bullshit - the political spectrum works something like this:
The further to the left you are, the more powerful a state you desire. The further to the right you are, the less of a powerful state you desire.
That means leftists want less freedom and right wingers want more freedom, in general. But, somehow, it's seen as the opposite, the right wingers beign oppressive fascists wanting to starve everyone to death and being terrible capitalist pigs who want money only for themselves, and the leftists being the virtuous fighters of freedom, all the while giving more and more power to the state, and, by doing so, taking the power from the people.
Capitalism, by the way, stands for the absence of state power in economics - meaning the state has no hand in the business sector, has no hand in money printing, etc.
It seems that the people who most desire and fight for freedom, are those who end up being the victims of violence the most. Ironic? Not really. It's been as such for all of history. Real irony, I'll talk about just ahead.
Who was the criminal perpetrating the act?
There's still not much information about the person. It's said he was mentally unstable, which is utter bullshit. Ever heard of someone mentally unstable going out into a political rally and stabbing the figurehead of the campaign? That's not unstability, that's premeditative crime.
It's also said he has been a evangelist missionary. Again, this seems like bullshit. I've gotten to know quite some evangelists in the recent past, a story I'll eventually share, and these people are, by far, the most virtuous people I've ever met, and, maybe ironically, the most down to earth as well, even if very religious.
Jesus Christ... I don't remember him inciting murder of someone promoting freedom... I remember him, himself, being the promoter of freedom, and him, himself, being the victim of murder for it. But that's not yet the incredible irony I was referring to before.
Also, the aggressor is said to be involved in a process related to another act of aggression.
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself
Political Climate in Brazil
I think it is appropriate to mention the state of Brazil. Violent crime is terrible. It's got among the highest murder rates in the entire world. I do have a lot of anecdotal evidence pointing to the condition too, as I've gotten to know a lot of brazilian immigrants coming to Portugal.
Invariably, they will say they've left the country in fear of the crime in their country of origin. You not only can get mugged just about anywhere, they may very well take your life for your purse, car, whatever may be, in the process.
They do not respect traffic lights in the big cities, as that could mean you get shot by passerbyes on the sidewalk.
You can't go to a lot of zones in the cities, as you would certainly get mugged or worse.
I even remember a story of someone a friend met being terrified of going out at night, to places where, in Portugal, you can with near absolute certainty go to and return home with not just bodily integrity, but all of your belongings, and a good sense of enjoyment, for example... any smaller street at all!
Poverty is also rampant in brazil, and that's to a great extent because of crime. 25% of brazilians are living below the poverty line and 7,5% living under extreme poverty - making under 1,9 US dollars a day. There's a direct correlation on povery being caused by crime.
Not only that, but there's also direct correlation to a leftist regime making it so poverty increases, and Brazil has been under leftist regimes ever since the military dictatorship ended in the 80s.
The great irony
Former brazilian president, Lula, has been in prison for some time now, for corruption and money laundering. The accusations went around for years, and have only in April gone to the conclusion of his incarceration.
His political successor, Dilma, basically Lula #2, was impeached for another shitstorm of corruption, I don't even care to try to explain.
Also, Dilma did respond to this stabbing of Bolsonaro... But wasn't particularly sorry for it, and invoked the classic "he brought it upon himself".
Lula, Dilma, and her vice president have taken turns ruling as president since 2003. That's 15 years now.
Some how, the former president Lula was still trying to run for president once again, this year, even being in prison! And guess what... The people of Brazil are so absolutely delusional, that he is still ahead on the polls! Or would be, if Congress wouldn't have prohibited him from running. 37% of the vote going for him. The next candidate being the right wing Bolsonaro, with around 22% of the vote, followed by other candidates on 12% or under.
The guy fighting for freedom is stabbed to near death. The guy stealing billions upon billions from the brazilian people is rewarded with the support of that same people. What the fuck, Brazil?
