Food giveaway – jail as a reward
Since when is charity punished? Apparently since yesterday. In Tampa – Florida – a group of activists were distributing food to the homeless and hungry in a local park. Soon after they started police came and arrested them. According to the original article, Tampa and other cities in Florida require a local council permit in order to feed poor hungry people.
The world has turned topsy-turvy!! You need to pay a FEE to giveaway food, that you buy, to hungry people! Well, I must say, it’s a very generous and charitable approach. When is it that we forgot to be compassionate? What kind of world are we building? What are we teaching our future generations? That you can’t feed a homeless person without paying tax on it? We should all be free to help others in need without fear of consequences. After all, it is supposed to be in our make up as homo sapiens. It’s sad to imagine that we can’t help the misfortunate without fear of repercussion.
I was happy to read that the group of activists do not intend to stop their generous work. Personally I do little bits here and there, but I guess not as much as I should or could. If more people would pitch in and help those in need, the world would be a great place to live in.
Great post.
