Top 5 World News For This Week [21/09/2018]
Greetings, all!
Another week has passed, it's time for its corresponding rundown. For those that find it hard to keep up with the news, this is for you. Here are the top 5 news of the week, selected by yours truly. This is a personal selection and I hope you find it interesting.
5. "It's Like a Mushroom" Says Stormy Daniels
Donald Trump is a very interesting person, what I found most unusual about him is that no matter, no matter what's happening in the world, he always gives the world something to talk about. This time, headlines all over the place were about Stormy Daniels' new book where she talks about very personal topics regarding the president.
The book has a lot of details about the supposed sexual encounter between the two, something that will dramatically boost the sales of the book because let's be real, that king of gossip is really popular and scandalous around the masses. Daniels wrote that a certain intimate part of President Trump looked "like a mushroom". And we'll live this at that.
4. Syria Shoots Down Russian Plane. Moscow Blames Israel
A Russian military aircraft with 15 people onboard was accidentally shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft defenses that were targeting Israeli jets, no survivors had been found.
The ministry blamed Israel’s “irresponsible actions” for the incident, saying Israeli fighter jet pilots intentionally used the aircraft as cover against Syrian missiles in a “deliberate provocation”, although Russian president Vladimir Putin later said it was caused by a “chain of tragic chance events”. Israel said its aircraft were not in the area at the time.
3. Australian Paralympian Exaggerated Symptoms
Amanda Reid (formerly Amanda Fowler) took home a silver medal for cycling in Rio in 2016 and had previously competed as a swimmer in London in 2012.
She competed in multiple categories (from visually impaired to intellectually disabled to physically disabled) which is very rare and it's exactly where the problems began. It’s quite unusual for a Paralympian to compete in the physically disabled category while having previously only qualified for intellectually impaired. On Monday, the BBC aired a report accusing Reid of exaggerating or faking her disabilities, for now we are waiting to see if the accusations end up being true or not.
2. South and North Korea Meet Again For a Third Summit
South Korean President Moon Jae-in landed in Pyongyang on Tuesday for his third summit this year with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Moon’s goals are clear: To try to resolve deadlocked nuclear diplomacy, ease a decades-long military standoff and promote peace on a Korean Peninsula that many feared was close to war last year.
It was said that meetings between the two leaders will be more regular, as this is necessary to achieve peace between the nations and also ease the military tension between them and to promote the North Korea - U.S. dialogue on denuclearization issues.
1. Hurricane Florence Made Landfall in North Carolina
Natural disasters are inevitable and hurricane Florence has been a relevant topic since it started forming. It recently touched U.S. territory and it had presented considerable damages to the country. There are over 36 people confirmed dead and also over $20 billion of damages.
Farming communities were badly affected and this disaster isn't over just yet. Let's hope the damages stop here so the affected communities can once again stand up.
