Breakdown of Bill Gates $1.7 billion investment in U.S. Schools

in #news7 years ago (edited)

I'm sure many of you know, and for those that don't Thursday Bill Gates announced  in front of 1,000 school officials at the Council of the Great City Schools conference in Cleveland that the $1.7 billion would go to  to support schools interested in developing and testing new approaches to teaching. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have spent at least $3.4 billion on public education in the U.S. in total up until this point.

  •  60 percent would go to traditional public schools
  •  15 percent of the money will go to help charter schools better support the needs of students with disabilities
  •  25 percent not stated in his speech? :P

It sounds like they are going to test and see where the money is best to be invested. Gates said "investing in new methods of instruction and then rigorously tracking student outcomes so that other districts can learn from the classrooms that serve as testing grounds."

Hope this was informational! I saw this earlier but was a little confused as to where he was putting the money
