The peculiar story of Grape-kun
Greetings Stemians! this time i have brought a really peculiar and without a doubt unique history, it's about the famous Grape-kun, and it goes like this.
Grape-kun was a humboltd penguin born in 1996 (21 years old) who earned a lot of fame on the internet because of his unusual behavior, and i said "was" because Grape-kun passed away on october 12 of the present year.
Grape-kun lived on the installations of the tobu zoo located in japan with his mate Midori, but she replaced him with a younger mate causing Grape-kun to distance himself from his other parthners and provoking what the zoo described as "depressive" behavior.
It seemed that everything was over for Grape-kun due to his old age nobody expected him to find another couple to spend the rest of his days, this was until "hululu" (character allusive to a penguin belonging to Kemono Friends.) came to his life.
The characters of the already mentioned series decorate several parts of the zoo of Tobu and Hululu evidently corresponds to the area of the humboldt penguins but the behavior presented by Grape-kun was not similar to any other animal of the same kind, Grape-kun looked at the cardboard figure daily and for hours this behavior suggested that he was in love with her and even got angry when Hululu was withdrawn from his area.
This kind of "romance" between the penguin and the cardboard figure did nothing but improve its state after its painful break up and despite the fact that Grape-kun had to be separated by a fence to prevent him from falling into the pool due to his old age he continued to admire the figure as he did since the first time, and in this same way spend his days until October 10 of this year that his health began to decline.
After his health state was announced the zoo decided that Grape-kun spent the rest of his days with his beloved Hululu to make these more bearable and gave his last breath on October 12, 2017 to what the Tobu zoo sended the following message
Translated: "The Humboldt penguin Grape-kun passed away yesterday. Sincere thanks to everyone for supporting him until now. Thank you also to Hululu, who watched over him until the very end. And thank you, Grape-kun, for all this time. Rest peacefully in heaven.".
And within minutes the fans around the world sended their condolences accompanied by drawings of the penguin and his beloved.

The addition of the characters of Kemono Friends to the tobu zoo was part of a collaboration that the series does with diverse zoo's, even so when the promotion finished all the figures were retired except Hululu .
When Grape-kun's health condition began to decline Hululu was moved so that she could accompany him .
Currently the cardboard figure of Hululu was changed so that grape-kun appeared next to her in the area of the humboldt penguins, now they watch the place together.
