#NewSteem Curation - Sparking Up the Blockchain

I’m sure we all have heard or seen the tag #newsteem floating around. Many were nervous or unsure how HF21 would affect them, including me. My biggest concern was cutting the author rewards to give more to the curators. My first thoughts were,

We shouldn’t cut reward percentage from the authors just to encourage more curation. What if more curation doesn’t happen? The authors are then screwed.

I really thought it was going to cause more Steemians to leave feeling more was being taken away from them. Although change can sometimes be good it can also be scary. This is coming from someone who has been blogging and curating here for three years. I have seen it ALL!

Well I must say that this #newsteem curation has lit a spark on the blockchain! Have you noticed it as well? Have you gotten more upvotes and or interaction on your posts? If you haven’t yet just hold out, I’m sure you will soon.

I am truly grateful for the change in curation that has taken place. This fork is causing more people to put forth better curating efforts. I’ve even read some posts that are reporting bot services curating now because less Steemians are using them. This is a new era of organic earning and legit support. People are looking to reward those that actually put real effort into their posts.

If you produce original, quality content that has value you will get noticed. There are so many curation teams and individuals ie. @curie, @ocd, @blocktrades, @curangel, @c-cubed, @helpie, @canadian-coconut, @theycallmedan, @mariusfebruary etc. who are here daily looking for content to support with an upvote.

Then you have your niche teams like @steemstem that upvotes posts dealing with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), @steemiteducation for all things education and @naturalmedicine for those that love and share about their natural medicine lifestyle. I gotta mention the three that I moderate and curate for; @needleworkmonday for needleworkers, @steemitmamas for the lovely mamas of Steemit and a new one that was just developed @homeedders (thanks to @minismallholding with help and guidance from @lordnigel and @pennsif) for all home educators. There IS something for everyone here. Just be sure to use the appropriate tags in your post to target the correct groups.

Don’t forget we also have many tribes forming that are creating their own tokens. These also help with earning more Steem/SP by staking and trading/selling on the SteemEngine. The main ones I use are CCC (creative crypto coin) for all of my NeedleWorkMonday posts and anything creative or diy) and palnet because you can use it for any topic. I like using the palnet frontend because it’s like the Steemit frontend only you can add up to 10 tags which I love.

Make sure you stay up to date on the changes that are happening. I pick one day out of the week just to keep up on what’s going on because the blockchain waits for no one lol! There are new developments happening and proposals/projects being submitted by the second! Stay in the know!

If I was only here for monetary purposes I would have been long gone. I am here for the communities, friendships, learning, growth and to witness Steem moon (as my dear mama friend @metzli puts it)! I am loving the changes I am seeing and looking forward to more good ones to come. Change can be scary (I’m old school so change always frightens me a little) but in this case I can see the changes working for the good of all Steemians. Well at least those who care to see it do better and for everyone to benefit and not just themselves.

I still have a goal of becoming a Dolphin and I believe it will happen. I look forward to being able to give more rewards with higher curation votes. It’s been slow because of organic building meaning all of my SP is from post earnings over the last 3 years. I’ve tried out the bot services but felt guilty from buying votes and stopped (this decision was made before all of the downvoting started). I wanted to stay organic the way I started. I mean it’s tempting using them especially when you feel like there’s no love coming from else where. I used them the most when big accounts started powering down and there was a scare of what was going to happen with this platform and many people left. It was so quiet and many posts were lonely. So I do get why people opt to use them but it was my personal choice to stop.

So come on and catch some of these colorful sparks that are lighting up the blockchain:

- Post Quality Content
- Interact/Mingle
- Comment and Reply
- Use Appropriate Tags
- Site Sources
- Do Not Plagiarize
- Join Relevant Niche Communities
- Stay Up To Date

All of these things will help you build a genuine and trustworthy reputation all the while earning you some great support!

Thanks @crosheille for this post! I am a little overwhelmed by the changes and don’t have as much time to post these days! I try to read and keep up also with the changes on Steemit when I get a chance. Have a Blessed Day!

Absolutely @violetmed! I can definitely understand about it all being overwhelming, especially when it’s hard to find the time to keep up.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a Blessed Day as well :)

What a great post i was dubious about thwart the Newsteem would bring but the changes i have seen have Ben for the better in my opinion

@tipu curate

Upvoted 👌

Thank you! I appreciate you stopping in to read. I’m glad you find the changes to be good as well :)

Thank you for the tipu vote!

Always a pleasure to visit your posts :)

Indeed, the new steem brought many changes that can be felt by the authors but it really depends on which side are you watching it.. there are always good and bad part on everything :)

That is a true outlook, there are always two parts. That is why I can only speak from my own personal experiences and observations. I do hope eventually that everyone will be able to experience the good parts of it all ;)

Thanks for commenting ~

I do hope that too. Thanks :)

I appreciate your outlook. I think a lot of people were scared, but it seems things are moving in the right direction.

This is smart:

Make sure you stay up to date on the changes that are happening. I pick one day out of the week just to keep up on what’s going on because the blockchain waits for no one lol!

Yes it does seem that way.

Thank you! It has helped me stay up on things.

Thanks for the visit :)

Thanks for sharing, you have mentions lots of new information that many might not aware of, some were not aware by me either!

It was a pleasure. Glad I could bring some awareness. Thanks for reading and for your response.

My pleasure!

yeah so many were apprehensive about the change mostly because we did not really understand how it would work, but now that is has happened we can see that the rewards pool is being more evenly shared out, it is very encouraging, here to the #newsteem

I agree, it is very encouraging to see it being spread out more evenly :)

Thanks for stopping by ~

I actually was a bit preoccupied with life and a short vacation so was laying low the last four weeks :)

I've had so much going on at home recently that I've only been able to post intermittently. And I have noticed some positive changes. The first was when I clicked on my wallet one day and saw that I had 40 SP to bank. My immediate thought was: "Where did that come from??" Then I saw that it was from some big upvotes on a post I'd written over a week earlier. I'd been too busy to monitor its progress.
So many people have left Steemit due to the low value of Steem, and that together with the 50:50 reward split has left some big account holders actively looking for good posts to reward. So in some ways there has never been a better time to be on Steemit! If I had time to produce a post every day, I would certainly do it! I've got loads of things I want to write about, but recently, no time (hopefully that will change).
I think one thing that has a negative effect on the psyche of many Steemians is that a post's earnings are expressed in '$'s. I still have a lot of faith in Steem, and I think it will be worth a lot more in the coming years. Just imagine if these were the early days of Bitcoin or Ether. It's the amount of Steem that's important, not its current dollar value!

Yes! It is the amount of steem, not it's current dollar value.

I keep looking at my SP and imagining it being worth 1USD 10USD and even 100USD. It sure feels nice when I look at my earnings that way.

@metzli curating for steemitmamas.

Yes @metzli I sometimes look at it that way too and it sure is nice :)

US$100 - that would be nice! I bought into Ether at the crowdsale, and I used to imagine what it would be like if it reached US$100. But I really thought I must be crazy to think that. Then it reached US$10 and I sold out in a frenzy! Ah well - you learn from your mistakes!

I’m glad you have experienced some of the positive effects of the change. I’m with you on that, it is a good time to be here and I would post everyday if I could. I think it will be worth a lot more eventually too. Now is the time to build up and hodl.

Thank you so much for a thorough response ~

It was such a thought-provoking post! Nice one :)

I for one am truly thankful for #newsteem and the generous upvotes from the bigger account holders, it's been really encouraging!

That’s great @lizelle! It has been very encouraging!

Some time ago I read an article explain why increasing curtain would be beneficial to the content producers too, by encouraging curation and investment. So that part didn't worry me. What worried me was the free downvotes after seeing how some abused them. We still get the abuse, but mostly they're been put to work in tandem with encouraging curaton first by targeting the bid bot users, which has pushed the bid bots into a position of curating. Now the farming and circle jerking is becoming more apparent, so they're the next to be targeted.

I dont think the code changes alone could have made the difference, it's the attitude of the people which has come with it which is making the biggest difference.

Yes, we here with @steemitmamas have seen lots of positive attitudes, which is always a good thing to be around.

I have never liked the idea of downvoting but I now it is necessary in some instances.

I agree it is the attitude of the people that makes the biggest difference.
