STOP IT !!! NIGERIANS ARE NOT THE SPAMMERS ON STEEMIT. LETS ALL SAY NO TO RACISM ON STEEMIT

in #nigeria7 years ago (edited)
First of all I would like to point out that I don’t condone spamming of any sort here on steemit by Nigerians or persons from any nationality at all, we should all do our best to Discourage spamming on the steemit platform.

Having said that, it is absolutely wrong and outright rude for anyone to single out a particular nationality on steemit as the spammers of the steemit community.
A spammer is a spammer and shouldn’t be adjudged a spammer based on nationality.
I got to see a post by @alex-icey that clearly depicted the Nigerian community on steemit as spammers (screenshot beside), I already responded in comment on the post but still I feel obliged to respond to it and nip that notion in the bud.

I have had spam comments on my post also and I never cared to look out which nationality the spammer hails from because that would be borderline racism, I would just ignore such comments since I don’t have the steem power to take on spam comments on my post, I am sure everyone here on steemit has at one point or the other had spam comment that didn’t come from a Nigerian spammer.

Just so you know, the Nigerian community has already contributed a great deal (and will continue to do so) to the success and growth of the steemit platform. We have notable authors like @ogoowinner @ogochukwu @ehiboss @oluwoleolaide @fisteganos @onequality @lucashunter just to mention a few, you can check out their original, articulate and well written posts, use it as a sample of what the Nigerian authors are capable of and tell me if it was right of you to libel Nigerians as spammer on your post.

Funny thing is you had @cheetah commenting on your post and that only happens on a spammy and plagiarized post.

So now who is the spammer ?

You @alex-icey owe the Nigerian community an apology and I hope you are man enough to do so,knowing that you don't have proof of the allegation thrown at the nigerian community on steemit, how did you know the spammer was a nigerian ? did you get to see his international passport or any other government approved document that proved he is a nigerian? it wouldn’t be cool to be seen as having racist tendencies on steemit and henceforth you should realize that you have to be mindful of your choice of words in your post because steemit community represents the world and the world is watching us all.
In ending this post, I would like to join @destinysaid and @gbenga to call on our Nigerian community to desist from spamming, we all know how it is, any negative thing we do gets mostly blown out of proportion. We all have a part to play to protect our integrity on steemit.

I AM NIGERIAN AND I AM PROUD TO BE A NIGERIAN. LONGLIVE THE NIGERIAN COMMUNITY OF STEEMIT

RESTEEMS would really really be appreciated to get this seen by all of steemit

Sort:

First I will very much condemn anybody making scapegoat of a particularly nationality. Cringy fact is that the Nigerian community on Steemit doesn't have as much technical ability as the rest of the world to constitute a technological nuisance to this platform. That said, I'll also advice Nigerians to desist from any form of "fund raising" or outright begging on here. I've had a few friends share a post by Nigerians that really painted a sad picture of us to solicit for help. One friend even asked me if things were really as bad, all ready to pity Africa. Sad. When I first came here I noticed the average demography was advanced in age and reasoning. And I feared that won't sit very fine with Nigeria because our baby boomers can't restart a computer and our very young population will be too impatient to churn out good content and not make a fortune instantly on them. To sum it up, my elders have a proverb: etang eno ndupo etang eno unen. "You advice the hawk, you advice the hen."

Peace.

Hey! You can check out my blog for original, quality contents. I'm not spamming 😉😜

@darkerhorse
well pointed out dear... you made us proud... that guy should be aware that Nigerians are not bad guys... but positive contributors to the community too
keep steeming hot...this post got my upvote!

indeed we have contributed positively to the growth of this platform and we are still contributing , and it isn't right for anybody to belittle our effort as a community on this platform.

very correct.. if you check out my blog post you find my own genuine contents and contributions... i even sent my 1k milestone yesterday ...check it out and support.. thanks

I will dialogue with him/her, but next time be more subtle. However it was good you spoke up instead of bottling it up. Message the person privately in case of next time or turn it into a joke and make the words lose it's meaning.

i was subtle when i dropped a comment on that post he made and he arrogantly repeated it. opinions are formed by informations we come accross and as more people come on steemit, you never know who will get to see that and have that notion too and slowly it sticks, i thought it wise to nip it in the bud

Thanks for speaking up. Nigerians are great people, we call a spade by its name.

you are right about that, your resteem will go a long way to spread the message

very right @dubem-eu
nice comment...let us call a spade a spade...

while i agree that we shouldn't single out a single nationality in the case of spamming, when i read the content as it appears above, it looks as if the writer is simply using Nigerians as an example. I agree that this is a poor choice, however I feel that the slur is unintentional, ESPECIALLY when you take into context that the writer is, according to his profile, a 14 year old boy. While I agree that this needs to be pointed out, I disagree with the shaming aspect of publicly singling out a particular individual. We all make errors in judgement. The proper thing to do would be leave a reply pointing out the error.

which i did and he arrogantly repeated it that spamming mainly comes from nigeria, thats racist, 14 year old or not. and most be stopped, he has followers and some might start believing what he says is true. who knows, if he grows with that thought in the real world he might be easily influenced by the white supremacy ideology.

i did look at the post, and many of his other posts. he seems to be an intelligent young man despite his opinions. he does later clarify his thoughts, saying he was only using nigeria as an example. he is speaking his belief on the topic, however incorrect it might be. kids are rash and headstrong. they usually grow out of it.

it is the task of our community to educate people, especially children, with facts. they are at a stage where they are more amenable to taking in information and correction. huffington post has an article which gives the nine biggest spam producing countries. there are numerous other sites that give results of similar studies, and in none of them do i see nigeria on the list.

next time someone makes a claim, fight them with facts. state your opinions. everyone is entitled to one. but leave the emotion at home. yes, generalizations are racist. but fighting emotion with emotion just begins wars. and i think you do an injustice to the audience here to believe that they might be swayed by the opinions of one person.

my point is he didnt have to use any country for that matter as an example. there are no facts yet on steemit on which country spams the most.and yes it takes the opinion of one person to make thosands believe on something whether it be true or false, thats the power of words.steemit is growing and someday someone might want to write on the subject and use his post as reference.you keep making the excuse of him being a kid, where i come from when an kid does something wrong you scold him/her and them see their error, you don't ignore the kid saying he'll grow out of it and the emotion you are refering to is called patroitism. you could help the kid see his error by leaving a comment in his post about that.

i am not going to argue with you. you have a point about racism having no place in steemit. but tolerance and forgiveness should be stronger than your national pride. i am not ignoring the mistake. i am simply seeing it for what it is, on both sides, and letting it go. i suggest you do the same. peace out

Wondering how he came to that conclusion.Upvoted and resteemed.
