Labour, Not Favour Is The Market

Africans believe there are taboos, fortunes, misfortunes, witchcrafts and voodoo. All these are evident in the history of the African people.

An average African believes so much in the power of tongue. He believes what comes out of our mouth can make or mar us and as such he is cautious and conscious of his speech. This is why when someone talks too much in a manner that is offensive, the person is advised to offer a sacrifice so that his/her mouth wont kill him/her.

What am i driving at? I was reflecting on the events of my last days in school. While many of us were scared of the life after school, some people were indifferent. Perhaps, they already had reserved jobs waiting for them somewhere after school. But those of us from humble homes looked up to God for help.

While some us were praying to see favour in the labour market, some persons reject such prayers and opted for a favour market instead. They illogically assume that labour means suffering!

Perhaps, these people forgot easily that while in secondary school, they where were taught that the reward for labour is wage in Economics.

Labor is the amount of physical, mental and social effort used to produce goods and services in an economy. Labor supplies the expertise, manpower, and service needed to turn raw materials into finished products and services. In return, laborers receive a wage to buy the goods and services they don't produce themselves. Source

Labour is the work, effort, sweat and stress of man which he renders for someone or himself in order to get a monetary reward in return, to cater for himself, family and get things he cannot produce himself. This is why once a labour power is used, the person is rewarded with wage.

So we were actually going to the labour market and we are still there. A market where manpower is need to turn raw materials into finished goods. A market where all we were taught in the universities are needed to produce good result.

One thing those clamouring for favour market failed to tell us is the reward for such market! We need to understand that terms have reasons for which they are designed to represent certain things. Not everything is negative. We should not always assume that since a word can be used in the negative sense, therefore it is negative every time it is used. Such assumption is what makes many of us superstitious by nature today.

People should pray to see favour in the labour market instead of looking for labour in the favour market (if there is any market like that). What we have is labour market and it remains a labour market because we are going to that market to use our labour power to get a monetary reward in the end.

Thank you for your time.
