The Jungle of Snakes and Shadows of Monkeys.

One of the benefits of having a government by the people is the opportunity to know some details of how the government is being run, how public fund is being handled et cetera.

It is unfortunate that no single society is safe from corrupt public officers who are continually embezzling public funds but the treatment of such people when exposed differ from country to country.

There have been cases of numerous corrupt officers in My country Nigeria and many have escaped been prosecuted because they have the "connections" and are literally above the law. These set of people are ironically being hailed by some people who are supposed to not rest until they are brought to justice. Corruption has been largely blamed on past administrations and their disregard for accountability and transparency regarding public wealth. The country is a wealthy one with lots of natural and mineral resources but the government depends largely on oil for revenue.

Interestingly, in a comedic turn of event, about few weeks ago, the story of a lady who was responsible for keeping funds meant for a central examination body for students; whom wish to further education in the university level, couldn't account for 36million naira ($100,000).

That is looting of money but she had a story for that and it is simply that

a mysterious snake swallowed it.

This does not come as a surprise because you should also know Nigerians believe in a lot of spirituality - even though the citizens practice Abrahamic Faith, there is still a lot of " juju" going on, hence the many belief in supernatural and mysterious things. The lady obviously thinks the people who, hopefully understands where she is coming from would buy her story.

Well, that didn't happen, as I did not buy her story and so many others

Two weeks later, monkeys were blamed for stealing another N70m (~$200k - a looooooot of money)on a farm that belongs to a senator, the worse part is that the money is meant to be shared by some senators;

Question is, what was the money meant to be shared among them for.

These dramatic events brings to mind the movie Snake in the monkey shadow.

But then, is this country a joke? Are we on a time bomb? Are we just enjoying the drama or will there be a rising up by the people?

It is so unfortunate that such things are happening in Nigeria. But i am sure it is many time fake news. In my opinion though.

So I thought it was some make up stories just to make fun until I saw a video section of the said lady being interrogated about the stolen 36m naira. And to think she was all crying and saying that some spiritual snake swallowed it was irritating and annoying.
Thank you for stopping by. You are appreciated.
