I always wanted to write a Novel, and I'm starting now

I have build up my idea for a novel which will have historical and political components to it. I have never wrote a novel before so this will be quite interesting. It might take me a year or more, we will see.
The subject covers a group of individuals who is put suddenly in a position of power where they can make a big difference politically for the rest of the country. But among these individuals, you have some with a definitive leftist/socialist view while others are neocons and a few others are libertarians. Their position of power can allow them to either intervene or not, but most will be keen to intervening. As such, because of their difference in ideology, there is a clash among this group.
