Who is really behind the hacking toolkit released?
With all of the NSA toolkit tools being released out into the wild I am wondering if this was all done intentionally. Most of the tools that I have seen on Wikileaks are all outdated, and have since been patched. There are a few that they released that are relevant only because people are too lazy to path systems on a daily basis.
But getting back to my train of thought, is that I think that this was more of a proof of concept for the NSA/CIA. The reason behind this is that they would have to go through so many hoops to test out tools in the wild, get a document chain of custody, and so forth in order to release the malware into the wild.
However, if they were to get some of their tools that were old and release to the public and have the public do the dirty work then they could still claim probable deniability. It is almost the perfect crime. What if on top of everything else.. they embedded even worse malware in the toolkit that got released that is even more destructive….
