An exhibition of extravagance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC: gorgeous designs but again reminding me of the contradiction between faith and religion. Faith is internal, perhaps even innate in the form of hope and the relentless desire to believe. Religion, on the contrary, reinforces a public display of power and wealth — I wonder if God bathes in gold?
