We managed to enter the outer courtyard of the castle but I admit that the passage to get over the walls was tight and I was a bit scared because with my car I was able to pass by a hair!

The first documented information regarding the existence of the castle dates back to 1155 but we know that in the thirteenth century it was conquered.

ITA

P1380535.jpg

The castle was not completely rebuilt when Prince Henry II redeemed it from the victors, handing it over to his son Adriano. The ceremony took place in Trent, in the bishop's palace, where it was decided to preserve and rebuild the fortress as a garrison, to ensure the safety of traffic along the Valsugana border.

Shortly afterwards, the castle became a fief of Mainardo II, Count of Tyrol and towards the end of the century the fortress was the protagonist of some war events of considerable importance. Castel Pergine was joined by the incursion of the Paduan leader Marsilio Partenopeo, allied with the prince-bishops of Trento and Bressanone.

The power of the bishops had been reduced and weakened to such an extent as to render them wholly dependent on the accounts of the Tyrol. They attacked while the Scaligeris, allies of Mainardo, fortified the Dos Trento (1278). Mainardo II found himself therefore alone to face the war threat.

The fortress was conquered and in 1322 he became vicar of the bishop of Trento Bonaventura Gardelli. It was this man who handed the fortress to Jacopo da Carrara to prevent the invasion of the bishop's principality by the Duke Conrad of Teck, captain of the army of the Marquis Lodovico of Brandenburg. The principality had entrusted the defense of Trent to Dioniso Gardelli, uncle of Bonaventura Gardelli, but he treacherously opened the doors of the castle of Buonconsiglio to the enemy, dismissed the troops that the lord of Padua had sent, killed Giovanni D'Arsio and delivered in January of 1349 the "Vanga" tower to the enemies.

A few days later he went to Castel Pergine to convince his nephew Buonaventura to deliver the castle in enemy hands, he not only refused the proposal but even decided to execute it.
At the request of Bonaventura, Jacopo di Carrara sent an army of knights and foot soldiers to guard the castle.

Several points of the castle were affected by the modern works of a local artist who wanted to represent in his own way the devastating effects of the Vaia storm that also affected those areas ... I admit that I did not like them because they disfigured the architecture of the castle and the landscape...

a ghost wanders in this castle, it is a woman killed by her husband and wandering without peace ...I admit that I didn't notice anything.

P1380588.jpg

Meanwhile other visitors had arrived. While they were looking at the landscape, I was fascinated by the staircase, but I discovered that it was interrupted and led to nothing. Too bad I wanted to explore the tower!

I read that in the castle there is a cell for prisoners and a tremendous technique of torture was used, which I did not know.

It was called prison of the drop, a room specially used as a prison, in which the victim suffered the ancient torture of the drop:

It consists of drops of water that are repeatedly dropped onto the forehead of the victim causing, according to popular-literary legends, the perforation of the skull or in any case a strong psychophysical discomfort. Claustrophobia would increase the effect of torture.

ITA
