[MOVIE OF THE DAY] Oscar Winners - The Departed
What's up boys and girls of every age?
I promise we won't see anything strange in this post, besides some overly-ecstatic praise to DiCaprio and Scorsese.
So, if Monday is "The Book Day", then Tuesday will be "The Movie Day".
I'll just post some recommendations, opinions, so on and yadda yadda!
I've watched a ton of movies, and by a ton, I really mean a ton. If we would take all the physical copies of the movies I've watched throughout my eternal sunshine of a life we would need some industrial scales, my friends.
So, to jump to the point breathes in dramatically: "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the wonderful picture directed by Martin Scorsese, The Departed!"

Just as cinema binge viewers would suspect (if they haven't already seen this lovely piece of art) since it's directed by Scorsese, this movie is not for the faint-hearted. To sum up the plot without any spoilers, of course, in case if because of some crafty works of the devil there may still be a few of you out there who haven't seen it, it's about a police officer that works undercover for a gangster portrayed by none other than Jack Nicholson, and a gangster that works undercover in the police.
As you may have expected, at some point, chaos unleashes. People get shot, some Chinese fellows looking for some expensive military microchips get screwed over, gang shootouts, some body parts carefully packed in plastic bags and so on. What I found wonderful about this movie was how it managed to mingle this whole 'pulp' grit and gore with intricate psychological character development and a 'through-the-roof' love story.
I'm not a man of love stories, I like serious stuff, but the lovely-dovely side of "The Departed" was just... just... it touched that spot. As an overly-skeptical person, I must say that I was surprised to see that some Hollywood romance (portrayed in a thriller) managed to move me, even if was just a tingly sensation and nothing more.

The cast is more explosive than a Michael Bay movie. We have Leo, Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg who plays an angry, cranky policeman, Matt Damon and Martin Sheen.
On my personal "Favorite Movies of all Time" list, The Departed ranks in an honorable 7th place. I'm very picky and pretentious when it comes to movies, and I usually watch them three or more times (if they are worth it), just so I can check if all the details are in place, if there aren't any plotholes blah, blah! This movie is pure diamond. If you know it, re-watch it NOW. If you don't, watch it NOW! I am "the tele-sales" and I wish you a rocking Tuesday evening, night or day, depending on where you are right now.
Love culture and live smart.
