Simulatedly Stimulated
A friend recently got an Oculus Rift and invited me over to check out the virtual reality experience.
Well, I had tried virtual reality many years ago in the mid to late 90's when I went to an underground Rave party in San Francisco. That VR experience consistent of a huge circular contraption that you stood inside with a massively heavy head gear unit. It adorned your cranium like a crown of thorns with an anvil on top to illicit and inflict cervical vertebrae and thoracic spinal throbbing spasms after prolong use.
I got carried away there, ok. But the helmet was heavy enough that most people ended up in the beginning of that VR experience staring down at the floor of the three dimensional, wireframe, Tron cubikal type, polygonal graphics that it was pretty laughable looking back all those years ago.
My recent experience with the Oculus Rift was completely different. The goggles are fairly light and I did not feel encumbered at all. What really got me was the immersion of the reality simulation I was observing and interacting within. There were strange body painted dancers around me in one demo. Another I was in a village hut somewhere with a family. Then I was floating down a river on a boat in some far away land. Mind you, these were just the demos. It was so immersive that when I took the Oculus optical display off I sat back and started looking around at the environment my consciousness observes as a reality experience on a daily basis.
I thought of a recent video I watched of Elon Musk at Code Conference.
Moments of time passed. I finally snapped back to reality. Oops there goes gravity. Wait a minute I thought, I have bills to pay. I live a world where industrialist prevented Nikola Tesla from sharing free energy. I live in a world where a banking cartel created a central Federal Reserve Bank and an IRS tax debt slavery system. Where corporations lobby loyalty at the expense of humanity and corruption is rampant.
Nice post. I think we live in one of the most exciting times in human history. We could have super intelligence within the next few decades... What better period of time to simulate? Maybe we're a future society experiencing itself in order to test out various ways of birthing A.I.?
Thanks for the reply. Very thought provoking indeed.
