031218 : My thoughts on the current state of Steemit

in #onelovedtube6 years ago

Happy Monday Steemit!

Today's vlog is a different one.

No show and tell today just my thoughts regarding the current state of the platform as inspired by @theycallmedan's post.

Maybe it's because it's been business as usual for me with the @TeamAustralia Christmas party that I didn't realise how badly the rest of the platform is doing. I know @SteemPh is very quiet, although our curators and staff are still working, there hasn't been many posts to curate. I see most of the communities I'm involved with are still chugging along.

Something I don't mention in the vlog, mainly because it's just occurred to me now, is the fact that it seems various Steemit communities are proving that joining a community is the best way to move forward and survive on the blockchain.

I'm pretty sure if I didn't belong to a community/support group, that when crypto crashed earlier in the year I would have left the platform.

Why?

Because I wouldn't have made emotional ties and bonded with people and that would have further devalued the platform in my eyes.

Let me put it into perspective.

What we are dealing with right now is crappy market prices, and I like to believe that we are caught in the crypto tempest.

This has nothing to do with the calibre of people we have on the platform - we actually have some of the best and brightest minds right here on Steemit.

The crappy market prices doesnt instantly make the movers and shakers of the platform instant idiots overnight.

The true value of the platform is not based on it's market price but on the people who contribute to the community.

What may seem like a mass exodus could actually be a blessing in disguise for in the end, I know we will be left with the true believers, and community movers and shakers.

For now though, I know shit is tough, but hang in there.

This too shall pass.

xxx

Everything's cyclical. Breathe in, breathe out.
Both are necessary for growth.

I agree Matt. This is something I've learned especially this year.

Thanks for staying around and posting your content. That’s when prices are down that you know who the true content creators are.

I used to blog before Steem and also post on YouTube and both for nothing (cuz less than $1 a year in ads revenue is nothing...). Now even with just $1ish day, it’s still 365 times better.

People needs to focus more on their content and enjoy it when the price is up.

Thank you for staying around too and for all the work you do for the community.

Exactly! Even 1ish a day is better then a big fat 0 every day. It's perspective and maybe experience. These days its so easy to set up a blog. Back in the day, if you wanted to blog, you better be prepared to get a domain, get hosting, learn graphics, learn how to code, or learn a WYSIWYG program ~ and after all that, good luck if you can get paid for your content.

I agree. Better content and I think consistency helps too.

Great friend. I have also just recently made a video about this issue of noting quiting steemit just because of this present situation on steemit. I guesd we need to enlighting people on this topic of leavin steemit just because of this situation

We do, but at the same time the ones who stay are the ones truly committed and as much as I want people to stay, I want commitment to the platform more.

I’m not really noticing any toughness around here but I guess it depends on what you’re looking at? Think I look at the wrong things? 😆

Everything will be fine 😄

Lucky you!!!

Well lets see. Over a year ago I left my business for a bit to focus on Steemit. When I started it was great this was something I could do to supplement our household income.

Then we bought our house, and then crypto crashed..

Between the two, it's been tough.
Everything will be fine, but still tough.

I know people who have had to sell their homes because of the crypto crash. I know people now who will be homeless at the end of the week not cos of the crash but still...

Oh yeh that's tough when one of your income streams gets stunted :S I guess I wasn't really feeling it because I wasn't making a lot from here to begin with. The only times I've cashed out, once was a test with LROS's minimum processing amount ($30 at the time I think) and the other was when I had enough to get the steemkitties (which is still sitting in my bank account waiting for when we get back from Christmas Island).

Speaking of steemkitties, do you remember how you said you had a feeling one would just rock up? Well I didn't get one rocking up to my front door, but I did agree to rehome a friend's cat as she's moving house and wasn't sure she'd be able to manage/afford looking after three. So I'm taking him on, which means after adopting @gorc's rescue kitten we'll have enough money for more cat toys ;D (and I may put some aside to start saving up for a pug for @shadowlioncub as my dog trainer friend recommended what happens to be his favourite breed as an emotional support animal x_x)

My partner said there was a lot of crashing going on everywhere (crypto and normal), sucks that people are losing houses over it D:
