Is "Find Your Passion" Bad Advice?!steemCreated with Sketch.

Hi everyone!

I saw an article the other day about why the phrase "Find your passion!!' could be holding you back.
Upon reflection I actually was surprised to realise that I had fallen into the distracting path of seeking out a passion in the hopes it would be the answer to everything! They say if you work in your passion you'll never work a day in your life, but is it true ??

I like doing these videos because I feel like even though I'm young I seem to have a lot of experience in these areas (even if it is just falling into common traps!) and I really like the idea of making videos about it to share with others so maybe they can stop themselves from doing these things too!
Hit play if you want to join in on my journey of all the times I built up something as my passion and they were all EPIC FAILS.

Here's the link to my past video about The Imposters Syndrome in case you missed it:

See you in my next post!

Totally get your point. I've thought of it like this.. at least this is MenO 2018 (disclaimer subject to change with no warning)

The issue with one following our passion is that we attach that notion to the idea of being successful at it. But, because the definition of success is redefine by our economic needs, then our expectations are set to the standard.

No Money = you suck
Money = you are good

Of course we know that logically this can't be true. As there are plenty of mega talented individuals who've never made much money doing their art, following their passion.

The truth is that financial gain is probably more connected to other fields of knowledge than the ones most who would follow this advice would feel identified with.

For example:

Someone who is a good musician (not great, just good), but is a great leader, a businessman, a networking ninja. Has a huge advantage over one that is ten times better a musician but has no idea how money and business works.

However, to me the idea of following one's passion is still valid. But, we must define what it means for us to be successful at our passion. If we are not willing to think about that, to unattach money to our sense of self worth. Then I would say - Don't do it.

I like money and the more the better and my time is valuable too and many things has value. So, we can invest in money, cryptocurrencies, in gardens, and especially in people.

That's so true @meno. Great comment. I completely agree with you, it's tricky especially in creative fields that are often low paying and so subjective. Even with my experience at art school, it can be difficult to be trying to express yourself and then teacher feedback is negative. It can really shake your sense of self!
I'm trying to focus on my passion projects on the side and see where they'll go instead of putting pressure on them to be my livelihood!

Negative Deflection = Mirror

Negativity is mostly deflection, reflection, as people feel bad when others are doing good, and art, music, and many things are beautiful, creative, and people can fall into the habit of criticizing it because they're hurting. In other words, people can act like bullies when they are negative, even teachers for example like you are saying. So, of course, people hurt us, emotionally at least.

Spiritually - Our Heart

Deep inside us, deep in our heart, however, we can choose whether we will let our emotions determine how we are, who we are, what we believe, what we do. You can choose to be strong.

Fellowship - Offline Social Networks

You can meet with people who are aligned with who you are in order to refuel, recover, as the world can be tough. If people are attacking you, then you are light, you are good.

"Find Your Passion"

Passion comes from "Pateo"/"passio" and means "to suffer"

To find your passion is applying you should find your suffering. So if you are into doing the personal work of exploring your inner source of suffering is an amazing thing.

However, if finding your passion implies finding what you want to do for work or personal expression - does it have to be suffering to do so?

How do we get there?

The better question over, "To seek or not to seek passion," would be, "How to seek passion," and upon that, what is work and what is not work? We should remember that each person is different, potentially, generally, statistically, and what may be hard work for me may not be hard work for you.

Game of Life

So, like an athlete in the game of life, we can train, we can improve, we can grow, and it can be fun but also very challenging at the same time. We can go after destiny, dreams, potential, passion, ambition, the rainbow at the top of the mountain through storms, going towards hope over dope, joy over circumstances.

Contentment

When we feel maybe too entitled, or whatever, then we can feel we don't deserve pain, the hard work, the problems, betrayal, mistakes, or whatever, and as we go after passion, most of it should be in each moment as we go after our passion, we should already be rested in our passion as we can have some joy even as we are not perfect.

Freewill

We can choose to do what we believe in because we want to, even if it feels too hard to do at times. Passion takes dedication, belief, perseverance. Keep going as long as you are aligned with eternity, a foundation, a perspective, that you totally believe in. Don't be scared of questioning what you believe. If you strongly believe in something, nothing can pull you from it.

Destiny is like a Black Hole

But if you are pulled from something you believe in, maybe you're on the wrong path. That is a good thing, to go after what is best over what is merely good enough. That is daily choice, a daily readjustment.

Hey!
Great comments, I love how thought out they are.
You've made such good points. I completely believe that sometimes the universe pulls you to a different path and you can feel confused and upset at the time but timing is everything! Some of the most difficult times in my life have brought me to a place now that I wouldn't have ever imagined!
Thanks for your comments!!

Life is magical that way, that we can't even imagine what is behind the corner, around the Pocahontas riverbend.

Haha, I LOVE Pocahontas!
