Steemit Open Mic Week 43 - City or Town (Original Song)
Here's a song written when I was getting tired of living in a city, and wanted to return to the countryside. As always though, doubts were clouding my ambitions.
City or Town
I was shy, but now that the winter is gone and long forgotten
I don't mind if the sun doesn't shine
If the wind still blows my thoughts out
You can always calm me down
But it's hard to have fun in this city or town
Now I find that although everything's fine
It's still not too late for sorrow
If we mistime, then down to the gutter go I
Again forgotten
You can always calm me down
But it's hard to have fun in this city or town

I like those guitar riffs! I know that feeling too.
Good song man.
Thank you. You're a great guitarist yourself by the looks it it!
Great song again Andy! I love your style of finger picking. Good lyrics in this tune as well. Thanks for playing
Thanks very much Brendan!
This one is great! Can't tell you how much respect I have for original compositions, and yours are some of the best!
Thanks man - much appreciated!
Beautiful song. I really love the guitar and your feel. Your words are very apt.
Peace !!!
Thanks @atulmittal. I like your entry too, which has a somewhat similar theme I guess.
Upped. I'm a little late to the party but just wanted to support your post. That's a really lovely and flowing fingerstyle you've got going there. I've recently been taking lessons to improve my technique. Does it take a lot of conscious effort to apply it to your compositions or does it come naturally once you've got a few patterns under your belt?
Thanks man! Yeah, once I learnt a few patterns so the picking hand can pretty much operate independently, it really just happens when I have an idea that seems to suit it. This song was written for strumming, but I changed it to finger-style very recently.
It's so automatic that if I try to play it slowly, or think about what my fingers are doing, it normally goes wrong!
Cool that's interesting to know. I know what you mean about thinking about it too much. It's good to have these things down as second nature though!
Great song man I absolutely love that finger-pickikg pattern within this song. Gives it an almost bluegrass feel but singer songwriter/folk vocals. Awesome blend of sounds my friend.
Thanks very much man! It's an interesting observation. I do really like some what they seem to call 'progressive bluegrass', so maybe there's an influence there I hadn't thought about.
I've always loved the sound of bluegrass instrumentation but could never get into the kind of "back woods" style vocal tendencies. So stuff like this seems to satisfy my love of the complex picking without diving headfirst into a hillbilly song about the smoky mountains or whatever else haha. Your vocals give it a more modern feel for lack of a better explanation.
Yeah, I know what you mean about some of the sound and lyrics. I tend to like more complex chords than traditional bluegrass has too. I like stuff like Bela Fleck a lot.
that's great man , I like it , nice lyrics and nice song.
Thanks David, I liked your entry too.
Always enjoy listening to you Andy :-)
Nice picking. Thanks for playing
Thanks for supporting and continuing to make sense of the entries each week!
There was a slight issue with the chart interface not picking up all the entries - as so many people have started using the openmic tag. I think I've resolved it this morning, so the only one's missing now should be those not using youtube for their videos.
Very cool. People highjacking the openmic tag is an ongoing issue. We have talked about changing the tag. Will let you know if we do.
Thanks for all you're doing with the chart. People love it.
Cool song man, like it!
Thanks man!
