Steemit Open Mic Week 75 - Resonator - RL Burnside's 'Long Haired Doney'

in #openmic7 years ago

Hi it's a mad rush to get this one out in time for the @openmic week 75

I'm playing a tricone resonator guitar as a change from my GibsonLG5

16 gauge strings, the tricone has a deep loud tone.

I hope you all enjoy this one.

Thanks to @luzcypher and the wonder team for putting the show on.

Resonator guitars are all of my dreams wrapped in a sound... I mean i could never afford one but loved the sound and dreamed for one forever lol.

I also enjoy the contrasting stick in your hair, lol.

thanks for sharing Mr. Sandersuk

Thanks @limabeing. You know I always thought the same, though I had a single cone reso, I'd always loved the idea of having a tricone, as it has such distinctive characters in both the art-deco design to the tones and gorgeous overtones.

I was talking to a friend about the fact that I'd love one but probably never get one as I couldn't justify the money, given the guitars I already had. Then 2 weeks later I saw an advert for a brand new Tricone by 'Vintage@ usually priced at £600, for just £250 and had already been fitted with upgrade cones. I couldn't understand the price so I rang the guy up, and he'd been given it really cheap by theimporters as it had a rattle they couldn't get rid of. So the guy fitted better cones, still the buzz remained. The buzz in the end was caused by a single loose screw.

At that price I didn't hesitate, I had the money available, I hopped on the next train to the city of York, met the guy at the station, had a very quick play, gave him the money, got a receipt and a couple of hours later I was back home with my tricone.

I was confident with it being made by vintage, they're high quality, even though you have to smooth out the rough edges to taste.

A very fortunate bit of luck. 😊

Love that guitar man. Looks like it's fun to play.

Thanks bro. Yeah it's a great guitar that suits a strong variety of sounds from thundering overtones to the sweetest 'hear a pin drop' haunting slide notes that just last and last and last. 😉

I do love resonator guitars, I have 3 now and got my first one in the late 80's. That first one I got is a single cone, and since added the tricone played here and a wood bodied dobro style.

I use the single cone most, I have a cool sounding, and now unavailable, Jerry Douglas transducer pick up fitted to it, so it's a good solid gigging guitar. The dobro use with my band The Mercenaries, as it has a decent humbucker fitted.

The tricone doesn't have a pick up fitted, and they're quite expensive, and I don't have the money spare to buy one for now, so it's real treat for me to be able to give it an airing here at the steemit @openmic. 😊

Dude, man - you are so totally "off-the-hook!" - and that is precisely what's so great about you, brother! Keep on rockin' it, baby... Cheers, mate!

Aww man, thank you so much, that means such a lot to me.

Haha, "off-the-hook", thanks I like that too. ;)

Oooh that is a gorgeous guitar - in looks and sound! Love this riff. Vocals could have been hotter in the mix here in my opinion, I suppose that is the nature of the resonator style guitars - they put out some sound! Enjoyed this as always. You rock mate!

Hey thanks Carl, yes definitelythe vocals needed to be hotter.

I sat down with a couple of hours to record and post, and I guessed at the mic distance for the vocals, but yeah this guitar is just so loud I didn't get it right. It's a shame, it really needs the vocal grunt. I may record it again sometime and get it down how it should be.

Glad you like it brother! 😃
