Voices of Open Mic - the good, the bad & the beautiful @nathankaye
I'm only very new to Steemit and Open Mic, but I hope my perspective inspires someone out there...
One of the most important insights is more towards the end of the video, so stick through...
I've only entered Open Mic twice thus far!
So whilst I'm still just a newbie to Open Mic, I'm astute enough to already discern that it's definitely a very special place!

@nathankaye you expressed exactly what Open Mic is all about. Even though the format is a contest it is really about building a supportive musical community for musicians. The prizes are just a way to entice people to participate, but the real prize is getting involved in the supportive community.
You definitely get what we're doing here and your contributions through your music are valued, appreciated, and I feel blessed you're a part of Open Mic.

It's such a joy and honour to be involved with Open Mic. Thanks so much for opening your heart to my music. 🙏🏽🎼💚Clearly, we agree that this is a beautiful and unique place for musicians and that warms my heart.
And I think that the financial rewards and prizes are essential because the arts need to be valued in our culture more than it is.
As it stands, it's only the hugely successful stars (& the record label corporations) that benefit the most financially from music, yet it is the unacknowledged, hardworking, grassroots musicians that are the lifeblood of the music art form in society that struggle to make ends meet the most.
In fact, before the advent of recorded music as a commodity which created labels and the superstar mentality, it was the grassroots musicians (and actors and dancers and artisans) who would travel from town to town (village to village) that would bring people together and be the voice of the people's trials and tribulations.
I feel very much a part of that old tradition.
And I feel this Open Mic on a blockchain platform has the potential to bring that old tradition into the digital era on a large scale. And that starts by (finanically) honouring the artists that create the pieces of work so that they can continue to create meaningful, transformative, uplifting, healing art, rather than the homogenised music-like-products promulgated én masse by corporations.

My sentiments exactly! My heart swelled as I listened to your words because they completely embody everything that openmic means to me as well! Your enthusiasm is contagious and it has kind of inspired me to make an entry myself. This is my first time encountering your blog here on Steemit. It’s so easy to get lost in the vast sea of musicians here, but I think it’s a really beautiful thing that so many people have found a “home” here in this community. I think that this is one of the most uplifting and positive communities on the platform! :) Following and looking forward to your future posts!

STOPI agree that music is not about competition. It's about entertainment, but people like contests. I don't know how you can say one musician is really better than another except technically. I hope you enjoy it here. Open mic means a lot to me

Music is about the expression of the temporal, emotional, spiritual and physical dimensions of human experience and is best conveyed in an entertaining way, for sure, as in; it needs to be expressed or performed truthfully and then 'received' by others.
