Genuine Smiles of Children from an Outreach Program in CICC

This is a photo of children hugging their friends who are once a victim of a huge fire that hit in Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines last March 12, 2016. Though the bad experience keeps on recalling them due to their situation today, having the problem on how they can go back to their original places and how to rebuild their houses but still they all manage to gain a genuine smile in front of many people.

The organization I joined named Supreme Student Government in our school is lucky enough to encounter and experience having an outreach program for the children who are very excited and happy to see us sharing our blessings to them. We still continue giving them food and happiness despite of the real scenario that until now, 2 years after the incident, still have difficulties on how to rebuild and go back to their original location. We conducted the outreach program last 17th of December 2017 in Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) wherein they temporarily live for a shelter.

Let us remember and see the real story

We visited the place wherein they temporarily shelter in a small “barong-barong” or a makeshift dwelling made up of salvaged materials and some low-cost design of house made up of light materials. Some of the residents who were victims of fire managed to live on the places wherein their original houses were built and others reside on the outside place of CICC.

Helping them by giving relief goods, clothes and medicine.

Some victims of fire did not actually saved their personal belongings even clothes when trying to evacuate in the area. In that, our school together with students of Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School voluntarily donated goods and clothes for them to use.

These are students of the same school who were also a victim of the huge fire with their received relief goods. They also received clothes and other necessities for daily needs.

In the current situation we offer a good memory with them

As we conducted an outreach program for these cute little children, we also gained a smile on our hearts knowing that these children are still privilege enough that they are able to go to school and be their best version of themselves. They are still able to play with the other children whom they called friends and neighbors.

With that, we offer them a small activity to leave them good memories while having an outreach program.

See also genuine captures on how they participated in the small games we conducted during the program. The eagerness to win just to receive gifts and prizes. They just want to enjoy the game and the outreach activity experience.

These children are the future of the country. They have lots of dreams that they want to experience and reach in the future. Their situation now of having a temporary shelter and having the threat that they might be casted out in their temporary living is a big problem. Though they are still in the process of planning on how to go back in their original homes, they still need help from us on how to fully recover.

These actions cannot be done without your support. If you know these children, they need our help. We should act it now.
