What is Pain?
Detection of damaging stimuli by the nervous system.
The task of pain is to inform the person of the near danger. Even the slightest tissue damage causes pain, so early measures can be taken.
The level at which pain begins to be heard - the pain threshold - varies depending on the individual. Hypnosis, anesthetics, painkillers, alcohol intake are the main reasons of this difference. In some psychological disorders, especially in neuroses, this pain threshold decreases.
Receptor nerve endings are sensors of pain sensation. The distribution of these nerve endings in the body is different. The skin behind the knee is 230 per square centimeter and 40 at the tip of the nose.
Pain from internal organs is also felt like superficial pain or felt in other parts of the body.
