Three Graces /oil painting on the wall/ creation process
My greetings!
This picture is a wall painting from a series of folk tales about living nature.
The history of its painting comes from the painting " Seasons of the Year ".
And it was so….
Early in the morning my boss, the interior designer, Oksana called me and said, "there is an interesting order for painting in a private mansion". An hour later Vitaliу (my friend and colleague) and I standed at the agreed meeting place and Lexus drived up. The back door was opened and we were invited to sit down.
In the back seat there was a Kalashnikov assault rifle. I pushed aside a gun and sat down. Vitaliу sat down behind me. We came to the realm of construction and repair. We were met by the familiar construction manager and designer Oksana. Together we went to a large room, a fireplace room. Here the customer pointed to the wall and said, "I need a cool painting... Just very... What are you doing here is not important to me, but the main thing is that it should be cool. If you do it badly, I'll shoot your legs... I do not shoot the artists hands... I have a cemetery behind my house ..."
Later, the construction manager explained that it was just nouveau riche’s show off. We began to work on the subject " Seasons of the Year".
Our next meeting took place after we made the cardboard and the sketch
in color. The customer with his youngest wife (he has 2 wives) came to our workshop. Our workshop is located in the old 5-storey elite building,
built by the project of an English architect in the early 20th century. This was the first building in the country without bearing walls (on piles). Architectural monument. There was a small cinema on the ground floor. Vladimir Mayakovsky read his poems here, and later Evtushenko. The cinema was converted into communal apartments, and now our workshop is here, which the client called the basement.
When he saw the cardboard he asked in bewilderment, "What kind of women here??? Have you seen normal chicks???"
I looked at his wife, she's probably the standard ... "Let's go, he said, I'll show you the normal chicks...". And we went somewhere ... I thought that the bardel ... but it turned out not ... Passing by the church, he crossed himself. We came to а nondescript house, he went there and returned a couple of minutes later with a pack of magazines Playboy. "There are real chicks here, he said." "Why did not you tell us right away, bad guy" I thought.
On the one hand there was a strong desire to refuse further cooperation. On the other hand, I did not want to fail the designer. With the third - a solid advance was already spent ... For our next meeting, I took catalogs of academic painting and Playboy. We meet at the agreed place. The Lexus drives up. He opens the front door, where the packs of bucks lie on the seat. Customer negligent movement throws them aside offering to sit down.
In the end, he chose variations on the theme of paintings by Bouguereau (Adolphe William Bouguereau) and Klimt with additions from the Playboy. Soon I made a sketch on the computer.
The general idea of symbolism I decided to leave, replacing the seasons with the movement of the day. Two guys from Klimt are symbols of sunrise and sunset and three graces - Morning (Monica Bellucci), Noon and Evening.
Morning (Monica Bellucci)
This sketch was quickly approved and we proceeded to its execution. Since these are variational copies, there were no difficulties in writing and we soon (in a month) handed over this object. The customer was pleased and soon we made paintings for his eldest wife.

I am glad you are still on your legs! Art is so dangerous this days!
I'm also very happy :)) Yes, art requires sacrifice sometimes.
You did a great job on this; I know it is always difficult working with clients. But you found a good solution although I really like your original idea very much. Funny that the client thought the women in Playboy were "normal chicks".
Dear Kathleen @kathleenscarboro, sorry that I did not immediately respond.
Yes, I agree with you. Sometimes working with clients is very unpredictable, but a good result always justifies some points.
