10 misconceptions to the Paleo diet
Anyone who grapples with the Paleo diet or even decides to change their diet plan after that will quickly realize that there are many reactions around the subject. And not all are positive. As always, everyone has something important to say, and unfortunately at least they have informed themselves in advance. So it is that many rumors and false statements have accumulated around the Paleo world. To clean up with them, here are the top 10 wildest rumors and what's really behind it.
1. The Paleo diet is just a fad anyway!
Not even close! The whole basic idea of ??nutrition disqualifies this statement with a sentence. We feed ourselves as our ancestors did 200,000 years ago. Of fad is there probably not to speak.
Since the 10,000-year-old agriculture is more likely to settle in the modern age, and distanced from the Paleo quite clearly.

2. Historical imitation of Stone Age people

3. Paleo means meat, meat and a little meat

But most of them are not aware that this is a very balanced diet that includes a variety of plants, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits.

Although avocados are part of a balanced Paleo diet, one must not forget that Paleo is not a no-carbohydrate diet. The Paleo followers, who maintain an active lifestyle (which most do), also need food that provides their carbs, otherwise the energy intake would simply be too low.
So a new one: healthy and active living is the goal here. And if you're in control, then a baked potato or a pumpkin soup is a good part of any Paleo plan.
5. Paleo is not sustainable!
Studies show that a sustainable food industry can not be built within a system that also supports agriculture. And that is clearly the concept of modern nutrition. But food that has its roots in the wild and comes from nature, not from man-made plantations is sustainable.
To say that Paleo is not sustainable, so is clearly a statement of the ignorant.
6. Paleo is impractical and difficult to implement in everyday life
Of course, a full meal, with fresh ingredients not as prepared as a microwave dish, but that does not matter if it's Paleo or not. Whether the potatoes have to be peeled or whether the vegetables must be cleaned, the effort remains the same.
Shopping is certainly a small challenge at the beginning of the conversion, but once you have found the right supermarket, market trader or farmer, everything is as before.
7. Paleo is expensive!
Yes, quality food costs more than junk food. But you may be pleasantly surprised to find out how much money you spent on soft drinks, chips and a quick lunch at the doner kebab. Even products like cheese and milk leave a decent hole in the cash register. The money saved here, you can well invest in slightly more expensive organic meat or fresh fish. In addition, a healthy diet is associated with less medical expenses.
8. Paleo is a mere waste of time and energy!
Here the critic speaks in his desperate form. It accuses the Paleo followers that they are too busy with what they eat and thus miss the important things in life. Many believe that Paleo means spending the whole day just eating what you eat next.
If one looks at the overweight main population of the large industrial nations, one wonders, however, with what these ladies and gentlemen spend most of their time. The fact is, Paleo does not take more time than any other type of diet.
9. Gluten intolerance and similar diseases are nothing but mischief!
There are more than enough studies, books and reports from respected doctors and institutes dealing with food intolerance. Again and again wheat, legumes and dairy products are called problem nutrition.
And those who do not believe the literature, should talk with the patients who have suffered from bowel problems for years and now finally can enjoy a pain-free life again.
10. Paleo is bad for women
The hormonal balance of a woman is much more complex than that of a man. This does not make it easier in studies to identify clear guidelines and make statements that apply universally. It seems that under certain circumstances, a low intake of carbohydrates can unbalance a woman's hormonal balance. Therefore, it is even more important for women to have a balanced diet.
