What to do after Game of Thrones?

I guess I wasn’t used to having such a short season of Game or Thrones or perhaps it was the general disappointment with the events of the season and the ending. I am still looking forward to acquiring the box set of the entire Series on DVD to have a chance to watch extended cuts and deleted scenes as my interest in more of the lore and universe is still quite high while we wait for the next chapter from creators which will probably be spinoffs of the past of Westeros with no characters returning.

One of the alternatives I have thought about has been to actually read the books and enjoy many of the adventures not shown in the Series to gain better understanding of the characters and families. While some things changes or were modified in the show, it has been said that the books go much deeper in these adventures and character development which is what has led to some of the disappointment we have seen from the communities surrounding the fanbase.

However, I still struggle with finding time to sit and read books and given the number of books and how long they are, it may be impossible to achieve for me. In addition, there is said to be two remaining books in the Series which have yet to release so it will be a race to see what comes first for the fans, the books of the spinoffs! Lastly, they say that while the ending should fall along similar storylines, there is so much more to explore in the future of Westeros in the books which could expand on the possible spinoffs as well.

As I searched for things to watch, I quickly remembered prior movies that I have enjoyed with similar settings. The first that came to mind was Braveheart which is one of my favorites! I had recently saw the Netflix movie which was a sort of continuation of the history of story and also read here that another is coming soon as well which has me interested. However, I quickly remembered probably the one I have probably enjoyed the most!

Lord of the Rings and its trilogy was probably one of my favorites of all time as I recall even reading the books to learn more of the lore. I even played the video games years ago for an even deeper experience. I also remembered them for being long and engaging movies so I quickly got online and ordered a box set. It was the first Amazon order that I have ever gotten same day deliver for so that was an achievement as well.

The timing was great as we had just arrived from our vacation and all we wanted to do was sit in bed and stay at home for the weekend and deal with the jet lag. I took the opportunity to put it on and although my wife didn’t join, I was surprised to see my daughter intrigued with the movie and the characters. I was also surprised that she wasn’t really afraid despite being kind of creeped out with the Orcs. She absolutely loved the part in the Two Towers when the forest rebelled and took over the Tower!

It was great to get back to a great movie and binge watch it over a weekend! Having my daughter join me was just a cherry on top! While it has not completely handled my Game of Thrones withdrawal, it was good to enjoy some nostalgia of the movies! I continue to look forward to see what is provided to the fanbase in the future as there is surely demand for it and Hollywood never fails to give fans more when they want it!

Try the Magician series by Raymond E Feist as well mate. I don't think they will disappoint. The author has many books that make up the world(s) he created.

Game of thrones have a bigger following and this season is over already.
There must be many series in Netflix if you use it. I am not a big time fan of web series but few of my friends are crazy for Netflix. You can try if something you find for your interest.

I was going to buy the complete Blue Ray collection of GoT but no longer feel any desire to after season 8. I also said that I would read the books but I'm only doing that if George R.R.M. finishes the series. I'm not putting in that kind of commitment if it's not a finished series. It's a bit frustrating and somewhat bizarre that he has written dozens of other books and spin offs of GoT but hasn't actually finished the main series.
