Panama Surf

in #panama7 years ago

The best kept secret in travel destinations. I've been travelling from the United States to Panama for over 25 years. I have traveled extensively throughout the isthmus of Panama, visiting both the Pacific and Carribean coasts. Many places to surf on both coasts. My favorites Pacific coast spots to surf are:

Playa Serena - located 80km West of Panama City accessible using the Panamerican HWY. It's a mellow right point break on most occasions, but fires on any South swell at low tide. Mostly a sandy bottow, with rocks scattered sporadically. On weekends, the beach get's crowded with many families and beginners, despite that, it's a great wave for a longboarder like me.

Playa Tetas (aka Punta Teta)- a short drive west from Playa Serena, you'll see a yellow bus stop with the words, "Punta Barco" hand painted. After making a quick u-turn at the "retorno" it's a right turn at the bus stop. Heading approximately South for 3-4 km, you'll come upon a fork in the road...take the fork to the right where you'll make your way right down to the beach (4x4 necessary). Although Playa Tetas breaks both left and right at low to mid tides, it's a better left. Mostly a rocky bottom at the river's mouth ( rio Tetas). Mostly exeperienced local surfers.

Playa Venao - my favorite place in all of Panama. Getting crowded so I'll keep this brief. check our "el sitio's" website; el Sitio is the best of all the accomodations in the area.down low Playa Tetas 07-21-2017.JPG
