Ever wondered why most teachers frown at or cane their students when they are not getting what they are being taught? It might not be for the joy of it. At times, it just a mere fact that the teacher's anticipated happiness becomes hampered by the student's inability to grab the lesson effectively.
There is a kind of inner joy that graduates from mere happiness within the heart to expressive excitement that shows on the face when a teacher perceives his lessons are well understood by the students.
When there is a logical and synchronous flow of ideas and knowledge detween the teacher and the students, the joy is bountiful. I put this into a real test while taking my students on graphic design the other day.
After leading them through the Adobe Photoshop® User Interface and menus, I went further to explain the various tools and how to apply them in creative design projects. Then, I asked them all to imagine a card design and then direct me to create it with them. They all spontaneously started suggesting how the card should look like and we all just went on and on, bursting into loud laughter at some points.
Two major experiences I wanted them to have during the class
- how to think creatively and,
- how to communicate ideas effectively through oral and design approaches.
It is a process that takes some time to be mastered. I felt so excited to get to know how well they have been following what I taught them in just 2 hours. Here is what they ended up directing me to create. 👇
I took out some time at the end of the class to introduce them to #SteamIt and it's numerous benefits. I will be bringing them on board in the shortest possible time.
This is @abasbrave your nice graphic design tutor. # ☺
