Mindful Monday - Rest

It's ok to rest
.
.
This week, there will be a Mindful Monday break. And that's ok. It's always been a challenge for me to know when to rest and to acknowledge the fact that resting is just as important as the do-ing. .
.
This is a big area of growth for me, disrupting the program that ran me into the ground during my PhD studies: "If I don't do it all the time, to the extreme, it's not worth doing". I am happy to say that I'm getting a lot better at knowing when resting or taking breaks would serve me, and it turns out that it's pretty simple actually. .
.
All it takes is checking in with myself to see if I still WANT to be engaging in that activity. If I ask myself if I'm enjoying it or if it's serving my experience and the answer comes back "no", it's time for a break. And that doesn't necessarily mean that I stop doing that thing forever (another obsolete program I used to run). .
.
We have been conditioned to think that impermanence is a bad thing, but it really sets us free. It allows us to experience only what we want to experience and knowing that nothing is permanent allows us to be present and enjoy the current moment.
.
.
So, in lieu of Mindful Monday, take 3 deep breaths and smile. Ask yourself if a break from something you do religiously would serve you. I'm taking a break this week and I'm excited to share my adventures with you. ;)
