Ultimate tips & tricks for a (summer) party
In spite of the fact that the sun doesn’t shine 24/7, there’s always a reason to throw a fun (summer) party. Isn’t there? Do you have friends, family or neighbours coming over soon? If so, I have six handy tips for you to help you turn an afternoon or evening into a lovely summer soiree. Have any tips of your own? Share them in the comments! I’d love to see what your favorite summer parties look like.
1. Dress up your table…
With flowers, nice plates and glasses… I have a lot of second-hand items at home because I believe strongly in sustainability. There really is no reason to buy any throw-away, plastic plates and cups. Why not try bamboo items that are reusable? Another cute idea is to make place cards out of paper for your guests. This is a quick way to create a fun and well-cared-for feeling at your table.
2. Festive decoration
Decorating for your party definitely does not need to mean spending a ton of money. Why not recycle glass bottles as vases? Buy a few different kinds of flowers at the market and arrange these yourself in the bottles. You can also make your own streamers and garlands. So cool! There are a whole bunch of great tutorials on YouTube that show you exactly how to make them in no time at all.
3. Tasty drinks
I love homemade lemonade and I make it often in the summer months because its always a big hit. One of my favorites is the piña colada. It’s at its best ice cold. You can also add a bit of rum to the mix! See the complete recipe here here.
4. Good company
My favorite kind of party is one that includes my boyfriend, family and friends. If the company is good, the party is an automatic success. Dancing is also always a key ingredient at my summer parties.
5. The right music
Which brings me to my next tip: music! My favorite genres are hiphop and R&B! Make a playlist ahead of time with good dinner music. And don’t forget to add some tunes that can be danced to! ; )
6. Delicious food, of course!
Last but not least: the food. It should not only be tasty, but summery too. Set the table with the right number of plates and put all of the bites (prepared in advance) on platters on the table. This way, everyone can just grab a bite themselves. This not only looks great on the table, but also frees you, the host(ess), up so that you don’t have to spend the entire party in the kitchen ; ).
