Jordan Peterson is LEAVING PATREON and tweeting about freedom and Bitcoin

in #patreon6 years ago (edited)

Update - 02 January 2019 - Jordan Peterson and Dave Rubin are closing down their Patreon accounts on the 15th January 2019.

Original story - 31 December 2018

The famous Canadian psychology professor turned international superstar intellectual, Jordan Peterson has been leading the charge to find a crowd funding solution that does not (& hopefully cannot) censor users on the network based on their political affiliation.

The search comes after a number of prominent conservative and right of center figures such as Lauren Southern and Sargon of Akkad (AKA Carl Benjamin) were banned from platforms such as Patreon, Paypal and Stripe. The atheist intellectual Sam Harris and top Patreon user deleted his account in protest, accusing the platform of having "political bias".

Jordan Peterson, with a staggering 6,216 patrons on Patreon has threatened to do the same.

Bitcoiners have been quick to seize on the opportunity, jumping straight into the ongoing and increasingly ridiculous culture war to taught the virtues of bitcoin as the answer to their current predicament.

It seems Jordan Peterson has heard their calls, and perhaps agreeing that BTC is indeed the solution, tweeting out that Time magazin had called it "a bastion of freedom."

Bitcoin offers artists and intellectuals like Jordan Peterson a low cost, international and 100% censorship resistant funding platform that they control. On the other hand, Jordan Peterson and others such as Ben Shapiro, Dave Rubin and Joe Rogan using bitcoin to finance their operations brings legitimacy to the currency in the eyes of their mulit-million viewership. They are trusted far more by their fans than anyone on MSNBC could hope to be.

It is fascinating too that it is those on-line shouting for freedom of speech (censorship resistance) the most, who are now turning to a technology that has been all but abandoned by many libertarians and perhaps didn't know a good thing when they saw it. A beautiful irony.
