I don't think he killed himself. I know when you're suicidal you try to appear as normal as possible, but...BUT you don't make future plans. He would have found a reason to delay taping. He was set to start filming the next morning.

Sounds bad, he's not the personality type. Not that is a 'rule' but in general adventurists like living on the edge, the enjoy the feeling of being alive. I agree with @gojnn, he knew how the world works.
