The time has come for the first profit share of jburr-witness!

Seeing as my witness node is coming up on a vesting balance of 20 ppy, I thought it was a fitting time to do the first profit share as 5% will finally equal one whole ppy!

How will this work?

I was originally planning on waiting until the "Sweeps" application was released to do my first drawing, but I am too grateful about being voted in as an active witness that I don't want to wait to give back. I have been playing around with different ways of conducting an online giveaway, but most of them are too expensive to justify for a $15 giveaway.

The system I've come up with should be just as random as any other method, it will just lack some of the bells and whistles of some of the other services. What I plan on doing is utilizing the random number generator in the same excel spreadsheet I am keeping the votes on. To explain this more easily, I'll use an example drawing. Here, we see a sample of people who we are pretending are the only ones eligible.

Now that we have our entries, we can assign them tickets. To do this, I simply will assign consecutive values to everyone based on how many votes they have. This is just a simple excel formula adding each persons votes to the total from the person prior to them. In the picture below we can see this in action.

Now, the only thing left to do is the "drawing" of the ticket. Here, we utilize the "RAND" function, which returns a random value between 0 and 1. We multiply this by the number of total votes in order to randomly select one ticket from our list.

In this case, the winner was bts-fallout-complex!

I know that this is not the most sophisticated mechanism out there, but given that other options were not feasible, I think its an ok placeholder until the Sweeps app makes its debut.

I understand it enters in another factor of trust that I am not going to continually run the rand function until an entry that I want to win does. Just rest assured that I have in NO WAY an incentive for anyone in particular to win, and I will not count votes from myself. If still wary, then I can consider another option for the next draw.
