But who is behind the name of Shakespeare?

The fact that the author of "Romeo and Juliet" can be called the pearl of English literature, no one has ever doubted, but over the question - whether Shakespeare existed in fact many researchers are still arguing.

The life of the legendary writer is known very little: he was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in one of April days, married Anne Hathaway and became the father of three children. Shakespeare did not write memoirs and did not keep diaries, not a single manuscript written by his hand was preserved, and not a single record of receiving a literary fee.

In connection with the lack of documentary evidence of his work in the literary environment, a "Shakespearian question" appeared one day - doubts that a man named William Shakespeare wrote anything other than private letters and business papers.

Shakespeare never studied at university, he began his career at the theater as a watchman, then was an actor, a theater producer, and later became a usurer. Therefore, the main argument of scholars who doubt the authorship of Shakespeare's plays is that a person who did not receive a decent education and was not raised in a cultural family could not acquire such a vast vocabulary and write brilliant works.

Fuel to the fire in the Shakespearean business add not only unexpected facts from the life of the playwright, but also his death. In that era even less talented poets were buried with honors in Westminster Abbey, but the death of the great Shakespeare for some reason remained unnoticed by contemporaries. The playwright himself in the will listed all the things he had, from "the bed more often" to the kitchen utensils, but did not say a word about his own manuscripts.

Interestingly, the authorship of brilliant plays attributed to Shakespeare, pretend about 60 people. Among them, the philosopher Francis Bacon, Earl of Oxford, Christopher Marlowe, Lord Southampton and even Queen Elizabeth (incidentally, after her death, Shakespeare's creativity sharply declined).

Interesting! Coincidentally I'm reading Romeo and Juliet for like the 100th time lol. Strangely enough it isn't my favorite. I'll never forget my english teacher who taught me so much about Shakespeare, your post is shaking my reality xD

The same now happens with me. We taught biography of writers but we never have been told tt Leo Tolstoy liked prostitutes, Pushkin broke a lot of women hearts and so on... Nothing human is alien to them too) Thank you for your comment)

Did you know he also had a son named Hamnet?
