In 1985, Samantha Smith died in a plane crash, and the American organization "Children as Peacekeepers" invited the USSR to organize a return visit to the US of a Soviet schoolgirl. In order to choose a small "ambassador of peace", they held a special competition in which about 6,000 children took part. The condition was one: the girl must actively advocate peace and be no older than Samantha. The choice fell on Katya Lychyova.

Katya was born in a family of research associates in Moscow, she studied at the English special school №4, she acted in film "The Living Rainbow". Acting experience helped her freely and liberally stay in public.

From March 21 to April 4, 1986 Katya Lycheva, along with American schoolgirl Star Roe, toured the United States.

I still wonder how little we know abt history...real history.
I knew about Samantha Smith and Katya Lycheva. At that time they were heroines and the girls all wanted to be like them. It's very nice to remember those times.
Unfortunately, we didnt study these facts in school. But Im glad we are not stop studying all our life and can find out more abt our past too. TY for you comment
