BOODLE FIGHT: A Filipino Way of Eating, that makes your Experience so Unforgettable

in #philippines7 years ago (edited)

Hi @steemit, am ganno share to you one of my unforgettable experience in my travel life joining a boodle fight with my fellow travelers without even knowing them so well. This was only seldom to happen especially to a backpacker like me for you will be hesitant to join a boodle fight in a total stranger people you were with. By the way, what happened was that it made us closer to each other. This serves as a way of knowing each one of us. So must try this.

First, am ganno give you a snip background about this.😉

Filipinos in terms of culinary are almost known everywhere. From the great food discoveries, the unique cooking styles and presentations, and ofcourse the best chefs ever produced.

To make it short, Philippines is indeed known for its culinary discoveries/good foods. But what is this intriguing Filipino tradition of eating that made noise to the world. This is what they called Boodle Fight.

What is a Boodle Fight?

For the information of everyone, it refers to a Filipino tradition or manner of eating in which foods are being served in the middle of a long table where everyone eats using their barehand without even using a plastic gloves or any utensils used in eating.

Where is this Boodle Fight originated?

It originated from the Philippines
specifically from the Military forces where every hungry soldier eats with their hands symbolizing brotherhood, camaraderie, and equality in the armed forces. They considered it as one of the Military Courtesy and Descipline.

The fight or attack of foods refers to the act of grabbing and eating the foods as long as you can. In the Philippines, the locals called it hab-hab.

So thats it. After went trekking, upon our arrival the organizer was not yet done preparing the foods. So while waiting, just took some snap shots. And as you look at them, to my adventurous companions the are so crazy hungry staring the foods. Hahaha. ✌️️

So after a minute, we took our lunch immediately since everyone were hungry. Finally, the food was completely ready. Ready for attacks!😂

As to the manner of presenting it, the food is being served on top of the table lined as base with banana leaves. T'was usually being put first in the table before the foods for a clean and net presentation. Then rice was placed in the sides and the viands were put also either in the middle or in the sides. Depending in the kind of presentation you like.

So after a minute, I was finished eating. I took them a pic. As you can see, they were too busy eating, much more that they were too hungry. They don't even notice my shots. Hahaha. Everyone was minding in their own food.😝

As I observed, some others doesn't know how to eat barehands especially those first timers who really relied only of using utensils. Some others seems so expert in this manner of eating.

All in all, we have fun on it. Enjoyed it so much and ofcourse we experienced it to the highest.

So guys, just don't miss to try this with your barkadas. The best time to do this is when squad is so hungry, as if you could give a good fight. For defending your foods from the attack of others.

We should always remember that We don't need a silver fork just to eat good food.

Happy Eating!

😊😊😍
