The Philippines’ November inflation was released today, Wednesday (Dec. 5), and showed 6% inflation, the lowest in the past four months. With inflation and external concerns easing, the stage is set for a PSEi rebound this December.

In addition, the US will halt the 25% new tariffs on some $200 billion worth of Chinese goods at least for 90 days to make way for talks. In return, China promised to buy more agri (soybeans), oil, and industrial products from the US. While there is no de-escalation of previous tariffs imposed by the US, we believe market will take this short-term truce positively especially against the backdrop of a more dovish US Fed.

Upturn in consumer confidence, as well as the impact of mid-term elections, should help boost sentiment towards next year. Given this, we remain partial to:

1. Consumer sector (top stock picks: PGOLD, WLCON, MRSGI);
2. Property sector (top stock picks: SMPH and RLC) as Chinese demand and holiday foot-traffic on malls is expected to boost topline;
3. Banks (top stock picks: BPI and MBT) as inflation peak bodes well on tempering funding challenges; and
4. Gaming (top stock pick: BLOOM) as mass segment remains resilient amid accelerating tourist arrivals as well as strong demand from local gamers.
