Why Everyone Should Study Philosophy
1 ) Studying philosophy is fascinating
Fascinating, because the philosophy gives all our certainties in question; it considers nothing as obvious as given. Could it be , for example, that all I think about the existence of external reality is in fact the product of my imagination ? If this is the case , how do I know? How can I be sure that the feelings of others are similar to mine ? Is my perception of red is it the same as that of my neighbor ? The good and evil really exist or both value are a product of our individual or collective interests ?
2 ) Studying philosophy is useful
Useful, because philosophy requires us to sharpen our sense of analysis and therefore thinking more finely, more accurate. Philosophy teaches us to approach a problem in a rigorous manner, noting the possible implications underlying the problem and considering it from every possible angle.
An example: to properly handle the issue of the necessity of vegetarianism in humans, we must first realize that it encompasses several distinct problems . It must first question the existence of suffering in animals.
All animals suffer? Even insects ? Then, it is pertinent to ask the moral question is whether it is or not, always unlawful to make animals suffer .
By developing your skills in the analysis of concepts, you will progress at the same time in the art of argumentation. Your philosophy studies will teach you to defend your ideas and to persuade.
I agree - philosophy is a way of life
I like to read what old philospohers thought about certain things and ways of their life. They had time to live and think, which we today don't. When reading from warious authors about them or originals I simply travel to another dimension and see life as it should be and think more consciously about things.
