Are our thoughts free? - Philosophy here and now
The difficulty to think freely.
We are what we consume. There is no way to think outside the information that nests in our minds. How and where we inform ourselves is inescapable to what we think. Moved to any field, we do not know the public personalities, artists, politicians and communicators can speak with their own voice, that sure and listen to their words gives us an idea of their personality, or at least that would be the most logical.
Let's take an example to make it a little less abstract.
We like John very much, he seems to be a simple person and interested in social issues. He's nice and funny, I like John quite a lot. I came back from work, exhausted from a long and tedious day. Heavy I fall on the couch and turn on the TV. I watch some newscasts to keep me updated, a man was crying heartbroken. The host of the program looks at him in distress and touches his shoulder while the sobs of the victim echo in the darkness of the living room. What happened?" I wonder curiously. Amidst snot and tears, the interviewee tells how my dear John had swindled his best friend who had taken his own life. It seems that John was a heartless swindler. Angry at myself, I went straight to the couch and continued to watch the show. How could I not have noticed? A real estate specialist enters the cameras and begins to relate the sophisticated methodology with which John had been scamming many people from a very young age. John, he was a great son of a bitch.
I went into Twitter furiously, hundreds of users were talking about it and some had even been victims of John. He was part of the many of us who had believed in his words and now we had seen the truth. I went to sleep angry and disappointed that night. John was a great musician and I always listened to him, that night I slept in an absolute potion.
John hadn't really swindled anyone. Who was crying was an actor, the specialist quoted to explain probably a fraud and on the twitter the alleged victims were false accounts.
Wait! I'm not a crazy paranoid!
Maybe insane, but not paranoid. The press lies, it does it deliberately and unbridledly. They take advantage of the freedom of the press to obtain impunity for insulting those who are their enemies.
"But what enemies does the press have? They are just people who investigate to give us information!
This theory is beautiful. But no, I'm sorry to tell you that the press is really a corporation. Its owners are bankers or investment funds. Their homeland and their interest are power and money. There is nothing in the world today that has more interest than banks and investment funds. They are everywhere and the press is no exception. They finance the war, they profit from human trafficking, slave labor, they plunder oil, gas, water, minerals from any nation that does not have the institutional structures developed to expel these predators.
Any information that comes out of their henchmen media is simply a discourse in tune with their corporate interests. Any public figure seeking to push for a more fair world is demonized and even criminalized by the dominant discourse of the hegemonic media and its unified discourse. On the other hand, they also raise the image of despicable beings who only work for them. The media puts on and takes off presidents at will. Not because people are stupid (although many are) but because the communication apparatus is of an undisputed power and they forge reality in an impeccable way. They create microclimates of reality, countless false users share lying information on social networks and attack the enemies of the regime in a coordinated way. This is a real war. Another practice usually used to confuse the population is the creation of ghost NGOs, which have no activity of any kind and put flashy names and marketers names as "Fight for independence" "freedom in democracy" and other names that although they sound legitimate, aim to create surveys and false statistics that then the media collect and publicize as a reliable source to deceive the unsuspecting who do not know these dark practices.
We are at war. An unconventional war, its attacks go to the minds of citizens, make you hate the poor, make you think that their marginalized situation is an election, that they have no incentive to progress and that they live off the state. These discourses have a lethal impact by their reductionism to a complex subject such as poverty and the difficulty of ascending socially in a highly competitive system having been born without the minimum conditions to be able to participate in this race on equal terms.
