Apathy and it's cure

in #philosophy7 years ago

Feeling apathetic I've certainly have and currently am. I don't know about you but I find it easy to fall into apathy because i'm naturally a pessimistic person who can think of a variety of worst case scenarios in my life. They way to get out of apathy when I have that mind set is to remind my self on God's sovereignty for example: "And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17, ESV). God has complete control and oversight over all the events of the world and that means he has complete reign over but not authorship over the sinful events that plague our world. This means even if he allows unfortunate events to happen in my life he can still use it for my good and personal development "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). Knowing this truth can help one overcome their apathy because it's shows their pain can be leveraged for not only their personal good but the well being of others. Additionally It's easy to fall into apathy because it is easy to do so. Life can be difficult I know i'm stating the obvious however trying build deep long lasting relationships can be hard. Paying your bills and supporting your loved ones can challenging so it can be very tempting to just quit. However God wants me to do everything with my life with excellence because I bear his image and to reflect his Glory. Due to fall are the image that we bear is broken and despite the fact that we still bear God's image we reflect his image poorly. For example as it relates to this subject God is a hard worker and every endeavor he's undertaken he engages it with excellence. Mankind on the other hand sometimes fall into laziness due to our apathy. The way I find myself getting off this trap is to remind myself that God worked hard and well for my sake in order to bring me into relationship with himself. So in response it's fitting that I live my life in such a way that brings honor and glory to him not in order to gain God's love but in response to it and this relates to my final point. Ultimately to overcome apathy as a Christian or really a human being is to remind your self of the love of Christ and his purpose for your life "As a father shows compassion to his children so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust." (Psalm 103:13-14).
