The biblical texts definitely provide some value as a reference to history, where its focus on retelling events grows somewhat proportionally with the text's "youth". That being said, I agree that the Bible should not be known for its historicity. It's obviously a poor account of what really went down.
Continuing, my standpoint towards these texts will chiefly reflect something akin to your sentiments. What has allowed these stories to not only withstand time's tooth, but also flourish in the mind of man?
