there are so many forces in the world that threaten to destabilize us. we must resist.

welcome to 1-minute wellness: a series of short reads about happiness, creativity, presence, joy, mindfulness etc etc

anxiety and stress are like computer viruses. bad ideas get into our system (ideas about how to live, how to act, how to do) and then they make the system unstable.

good sleep, healthy food, and regular meditation practice are like force fields against those bad ideas.

calmness is the good side of a slow, stable life. to feel like you can see clearly. to be able to think things thru without rushing and without feeling anxious about the process or the results. life is always in flux and a lot is unknown so its hard to stay calm in changing circumstances.

by cultivating certain kinds of stability i.e. financial, emotional, physical stability, it becomes much easier to stay calm.

or as i like to think about it: to be calm & energized.

lethargy is the bad side of stability. feeling unmotivated and vaguely sad, where it's easier to avoid all of life problems by staying still on the couch or in bed and just hiding from it all. not giving a fuck or caring about anything.

lethargy is not the same thing as being calm. calm implies a positive, powerful, focused feeling. not a muddy, lazy feeling.

it feels good to be calm & energized, flowing w/ the flux, and enjoying the process.

How do you cultivate calmness in your life?
