RE: WHEN THE INCREDIBLE BECOMES UNIMPORTANT – Lamenting the Obvious Disconnect of Modernized Civilizations and Possibly Losing $324,000
Great post, I agree with most of what it says, but I had a thought...
You say that some people own so little - just clothes - but are you aware that a growing population of people is choosing to be digital nomads? They own nothing but a laptop and the clothes they have on their back. This gives them freedom to go almost anywhere at any time.
It's just food for thought :)
And I must say that reading your post made me realize just how sweet that freedom can be. It's a bit zen as it's practically freedom from all possessions, but the end goal is the same - freedom from the rat race.
Increadible - two totally different approaches and the same end goal.
Well, I'm going back to my hamsterwheel XD planting my binary apple seeds :)
Thank you for your post :)
I meant that many have in their possession things like cars, boats, houses etc, that they do not own.
The amazing car parked in front of the majestic house are just things that the bank owns, and that the people will have to work a long hard time for and pay a lot in interest for just to attempt to actually "own" them one day.
Those people are not free to just leave and go where they please, and become wage slaves attempting to maintain possession of their creature comforts.
There was a time when all I owned was on a school bus, and I had very little. Many times in this life I've just dumped what I had accumulated and moved on with almost nothing, so I understand what you are saying.
Yeah, debt is a problem... It perpetuates the lifestyle slavery.
I wonder, did you read the milionair fastlane (book)? It talks about this a lot.
I found it quite good.
Personally no amount of slavery, debt and un-privacy would drive me to ditch urban comfort. But, the perpetually worsening food quality could...
I bet your chicken never smell like fish...
p.s. If you have your own chicken how do you ensure the eggs are free of harmfull bacteria?
We cook the eggs and wash our hands a lot. Other than that, I'm not sure, but no issues yet.
"Chicken smelling like fish?" - News to me (thankfully)
I've never read that book, and I agree, the urban setting does allow certain comforts, but I'm more comfortable in the wild, and cities are a close enough drive if and when we want.
Thanks for the discussion @mrlogic.
Always a pleasure :)
